I don't think there is a JRB song I don't like.
I'm going to be getting this when it comes out
I saw Krista perform the song at JRB's Au Bar concert in November 2004, and was equally impressed by the song and by her performance. If you search waaay back I think I even wrote a loong review of the 2 performances that night (yes I attended both). JRB's had some promising stuff in the works, so it's great to see that THIRTEEN continues to be developed. As for Ms. Pioppi, I don't know what she's up to these days- but I believe she was the winner of that silly BE WICKED contest at one point.

Hey all, thanks for the shout-outs! I don't know much what Krista's up to these days, I suspect she's just finishing high school and being a real person. Her Mom wrote me a really sweet note giving me permission to use the song on my website, so that's how that happened.
And you know, you should check out all the sound blogs, there's a lot of cool JRB stuff on there!
See you all at the show! (I hope!)

What impressed me most about this song is that it sounds like it is actually coming out of a 13 year old. Too many show written by adults about kids overdo the language of kids, trying to throw in lots of modern slang (which will only, inevitabely date the peice as time goes on) and trying way too hard to emulate the way they speak. The other danger is that they go the oppostie way and try to make the kids too eloquent and thoughtful for their own good.
This song demonstrates that there can be a happy, realistic medium, which makes me look forward to this musical a LOT. I can't wait to hear more.

When I went to the JRB concert in Santa Rosa, I got to talking with the kids in front of me, and it turns out that we all have tickets for the first preview of 13 in LA. Hoorah! I'm definitely blind buying another set when I get the money and trying to crash opening night. (And this is the day after I get back from my 7-day, 11-show New York Extravanganza!)
Yes, December will be grand.
How would one go about finding these sound blogs with other JRB stuff?

Amazing, touching song. Great work!
LOVE!
I can't wait to hear the rest of this show. I have a feeling that it's going to show some very true emotions from 13 year olds, something that's not too often done in a tangible way such as a musical.
As a middle school teacher who actually works with kids this age, I was VERY impressed by how realistic sounding for the kids this song was! I write a lot of material for my students to perform (working on a play now with a bunch of monologues and it's not always easy -- the kids are blatantly honest with me when I get away from what they would actually say). Jason, I don't know if you had the input I'm fortunate to get on a daily basis with my writing from kids that age, but if you didn't, to me it sounds like you're RIGHT on the money.
i love it...very differnt from other music. who is this singing she sounds young and xtremly talented.

Am I the only one who thinks that this song is really forgettable.
Enjoyable. Cute. Probably truthful in a way. But forgettable.
I'm a huge JRB fan and I will be really interested to hear the rest of the score, and see what happens with this project, but for a "New Song" it's not on the same level as some of his past material.
The girl who sings it is good, though.
Considering I'm just discovering the wonders of Jason Robert Brown, I am thouroughly amazed. This really DOES capture a 13-year-old's POV. Thank you JRB, and I wish they had an official recording!

I'm wrong???
That's what you have to say to me.
How am I wrong? Would you care to elaborate?
This song is so beautiful. I don't think I've ever heard a JRB song I didn't like. The more I listen to his music, the more I love it.
But as for "13"... I just hope that the cast isn't a bunch of similar chesty voices. It's hard for me to imagine what an ensemble number must sound like... But I have complete confidence that the music for this show will be performed with class.
Again, love this song. I'm dying to hear more from "13"
