WaT - I was being serious...Why does no one take me seriously!
Well, you will all feel stupid when he opens Metropolis and it wins a bunch of Tony's!
...
The possibility for a THREE DAYS OF RAIN nomination here seems possible, but they'll probably go for THE WEDDING SINGER.
Wait....What?
Featured Actor Joined: 2/21/05
Based on what I saw in New York on my trips there I am hoping for nominations for Tyne Daly (Rabbit Hole) & Jill Clayburgh (Barefoot in the Park)....also Cynthia Nixon (Rabbit Hole). I also thoroughly enjoyed The Color Purple - a very touching show.
The original score for THREE DAYS OF RAIN is better than anything else written this entire year.

My Tony Thoughts:
-Drowsy Chaperone, The Color Purple, Tarzan, and Jersey Boys will be nominated for Best Musical; Jersey Boys will take home Best Musical.
-John Lloyd Young, Micheal Cerveris, Alan Cumming, and Bob Martin will be nominated for Leading Actor; John Lloyd Young will win it.
-Leading actress will probably be a race between Sutton and Patti.
-Daniel Reichard, Christian Hoff, J. Robert Spencer, and Manoel Feliciano(sp?) will probably be nominated for featured actor; Other possible canidates include Edward Hibbert, Danny Burstein, and Micheal Longoria.
-The Threepenny Opera, The Pajama Game, and Sweeney Todd will be nominated for Best Revival; Sweeney will win it.
-Best Director might be a race between Des McAnuff and John Doyle.
That's all for now.

I think I would like (though most aren't gonna happen):
Featured Actor
Brian Charles Rooney
Featured Actress
Cyndi Lauper
Best Actor
John Lloyd Young
Best Actress
LaChanze
Best Musical
The Color Purple
Broadway Star Joined: 2/27/06
Well if there's no room for John Slattery under the Best Actor in a Play category, then he deserves to be recognized for Featured Actor in a Play. His role was just as important as Cynthia's in Rabbit Hole and he was absolutely phenominal as Howie Corbett!
"Featured Actor
Brian Charles Rooney"
*GASP* BSo you are DEAD to me! DEAD!!!!!! Pal demonio contigo!!!
I do agree about Cindy Lauper though...
thanks, BroadwayChica,
have you seen me in the show???

I LOVED Brian Charles Rooney in Threepenny. LOVED LOVED LOVED him.
But no way can he ever take the place of my boy in that category!!!
So nya nya to you, too!

we shall see... won't we? muhahahahahaha!! It's going to be tough for any of us who are nominated in that category... it's going to be tough to even get the nomination - there are SO many deserving candidates this year. That's good though, because it means that a lot of good roles were written/available - and that is always welcome!!
I agree that it's a tough category this year, and there were MANY wonderful performances. And Brian Charles Rooney, (er, I mean "you" ) was fantastic. Definitely one of the best overall performances this year. He (you?) definitely deserves a nomination.
But my boy's taking this one. And deservedly so.

I stand by Mano as my prediction, not that you (Brian) weren't wonderful.
ooooooh boy.
That said, Tony ---> Manoel.

Well, Chica. I HAVE been all for Manoel.
BUT...I was, ummm...how do I say this without getting in trouble...well, let us say I heard 3Penny again in my brain....
ANYWAY...The fact that rooney can switch back and forth between the two voices during Jealousy Duet and can sing LUCY'S ARIA better than an actual woman...and sound more like a woman (and a man) means something.
PLUS - it works in my song:
The Tony Awards are drawing near
It’s an event that happens once a year
And the debates are getting heated
Who will win? Who will be defeated?
The race for Featured Actor is quite puny
Why don’t we just give the award to Brian Charles Rooney?
The Featured Actress race is quite diverse
For it I’ll have to start a new verse
Let’s look at the Featured Actresses this season yields
From Mendes to Leveal, from Lawrence to Fields
But I know there’s one actress, and no one can stop her
She’s making her debut, yes, of course, it’s Cyndi Lauper
The lead actors this year are all really great
Connick, Jr., the crooner, and Cerveris, who plays Lovett’s mate
But it seems many people are ready to rally
For that newcomer who portrays Frankie Valli
And last, but not least, the Best Actress of the year
Who knows what will happen, it’s too early I fear
And while I’d love to see Patti LuPone win the award
I also don’t think LaChanze can be ignored
The revivals this season come only in three
The Pajama Game, Threepenny, and John Doyle’s Sweeney
While one of these three will probably be left in despair
Maybe the critics will surprise us (though that is rare!)
The race for best musical makes us groan
Where the best are Jersey Boys, The Color Purple and Drowsy Chaperone
But it gets even crazier with each bizarre fan
Rooting for The Wedding Singer or Tarzan
All in all this year’s quite exciting
I’m sure we will see producers all fighting
So let us wait until the battles begin
Who knows what will happen (Will In My Life win?)
Ok I've predicted way too many times so I'll just do winners:
Musical:
The Color Purple
Actor:
John Lloyd Young (though I'd rather Cerveris)
Actrss:
Patti Lupone
Featured Actress:
Elisabeth Withers Mendez
Featured Actor:
Manoel Feliciano
Book of a Musical:
The Drowsy Chaperone or Jersey Boys
Score:
The Color Purple (but Woman In What is my dark horse)

What's the tune of the song?
Brian Charles Rooney was amazing and deserves a nomination, but I remain loyal to Mano for the win.
I have yet to see some of the shows, so this is early and premature...but at this point, here's who I'm thinking
MUSICAL
The Drowsy Chaperone
The Color Purple
Jersey Boys
fourth slot going to a musical that doesn't deserve a nomination...Tarzan or Wedding Singer. If it were fair, The Woman In White would recieve the 4th slot...it was a much better show than either of those other 2.

The tune is whatever you would like!
AND...
Watch me flip flop over the next few weeks (months!?) between Manoel and Brian.
Maybe we can have a tie?
On the one hand - and you all know I love Mano as much as the next (Well, next avid theatre goer who isn't all up in his beanie)...
Mano does an amazing job at setting the tone of the show.
HE fully encompasses the theme of the revival.
Than Brian Charles Rooney has a few amazing feats. One, he's kept locked away until Act Two. He comes on ranting, and sings the JEALOUSY DUET, blowing Nellie out of the water (though I love Nellie, she sounds like a man on testosterone next to Rooney singing).
Then Rooney sings LUCY'S ARIA and that scene steals the whole show. Only Cyndi's SOLOMON SONG comes close to matching it.

"ANYWAY...The fact that rooney can switch back and forth between the two voices during Jealousy Duet and can sing LUCY'S ARIA better than an actual woman...and sound more like a woman (and a man) means something. "
I COMPLETELY and wholeheartedly agree. In fact, I said as much as soon as I got back from the show. I'm VERY impressed with Rooney's performance (that aria scene is one of the most thrilling, inspired performances I've ever scene in my LIFE), and in another year, I'd be rooting for him to win.
But, and this has nothing to do with any sense of "loyalty" to a show or an actor, I still believe that Felciano's performance is most deserving of recognition. I've already said why I believe this to be true, so I won't go into it again.
That's not to disrespect Rooney. My original comment was a jab at BSo for switching loyalties
Oh, and, as always, BSo, love your songs.

To be honest, I forgot about Manoel when I wrote that.
BUT...Manoel has more to do in the show, obviously. I wouldn't be surprised to see him win. And I'd be very happy.
But if Rooney gets a nom, I'll be happy -
Ugh. I don't know.
I want them both to win.
They should start a "Best Opposite Sex Award" for actors who play against their natural selves...
Like...Harvey in Hairspray, Mary Martin in Peter Pan, Rosie in Fiddler...
I'm on board with that!! Plus, "Opposite Sex Award" would look a LOT cooler on a Tony than "Best Featured Actor in a Musical"

Brian Charles Rooney's singing really is incredible. He is far better than Nellie, and he definately stands out in the cast.
On the other hand, Mano's performance as Tobias is just so detailed, and he takes on his character with chilling perfection.
A tie would be great! For now, I maintain that Mano deserves the win.

J. Robert Spencer from Jersey Boys most likely won't be getting a nomination. He has the less flashy part of the Four Seasons. He has much less to do in the story than Christian Hoff and Daniel Reichard.
I think Michael Cerveris should win, I thought he was phenomenal. He created such a layered, fascinating Sweeney.
..does anyone here think he has a chance?...so far it seems most are thinking it'll be John Loyd Young.
