Is it just me? Don't both of her costumes resemble their Patti counterparts? Even the Louise seems to be wearing the costume Laura Benanti wore.

I thought maybe they rented the costumes, as I heard the sets and physical production were saved for a possible tour. But no mention of that in the playbill article.

Just me?

Wow! Very similar. Notice how a "costume coordinator" is listed, not a designer. Updated On: 7/8/10 at 01:43 AM

The costumes are rentals. Whether they were from the 2003 Broadway production, I do not know, but they are rentals.

Speaking of this production, I'm looking forward to some reports on the show and the re-opening of the theater!

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Martin Pakledinaz is listed on NSMT site as the original costume designer!

Martin Pakledinaz did the recent LuPone revival.

Vicki looks amazing and sexy with her gorgeous gams! I am sure she'll be fantastic.

To be fair, I've seen (and been in) Gypsy several times and the design is always pretty similar; there's not really a lot of scope for unique and original design; unlike JCS or Chess.
I think the show looks great and I'l be interested to hear what people think of it.

Ah, the credit to Pakledinaz answers my question then. Thanks! I wonder if the costumes are the only things rented...

Is there a real lamb in this production or the dreaded puppet?

Didn't Jacquelyn Piro standby for Louise in the 1989 revival with Tyne Daly?

I thought she was very very good, and I saw Miss Patti twice.
From where I was sitting it didn't look like a real lamb.
Imagine doing those scenes in the round, where Gypsy is suppose to hold the curtain in front of herself, but it worked pretty well.
New tile in the rest rooms, very nice, lots of new paint.
What I'm wondering about is what they will do with the restaurant, which I always thought could be much improved.
Also Bill Hanney came on stage and it was pretty cool to see the guy who made it happen.

Yeah, but these are the exact same costumes...

Yes, but the title of the original post doesn't just refer to the costumes; just the show in general.

Isn't Gypsy more or less always the same, no matter where it's done?

Why does Dainty June look older than Rose?

There is no reason Gypsy would look the same. If Rose always wears a cardigan over a red dress that's juts laziness. You've got loads of areas to really be creative- all the vaudeville acts, the strippers, June & Louise's acts....

That collage of photos just posted is NOT of the recent Patti LuPone Broadway revival. Its some regional/community theater production.

The show itself usually looks the same, though? I mean, the staging and whatnot.

Lewis wears those costumes 400x better than LuPone. Also, those photos make Louise and June look older than Lewis. They look about 45 years old.
