I'd love to see Natalie Cortez(ACL's Diana) as Maria.

I'd rather see her as Anita. Actually, I think her Anita would be pretty amazing.

I agree.

And I'm not so sure how "unknown" they are really going given the rumors I've heard. I suppose it depends what 'unknown' means: unknown to the world or the b'way community: BIG difference.

BTW: I think Groff would be great as Tony.

Any suggestions for Riff? (my favorite part)

I know of at least three very well known Broadway actors who have been in final callbacks in the past couple of weeks. They are neither unknown nor are they teens. The fourth, who is currently in a Broadway show, is more of an unknown but still a Broadway actor. I wouldn't put much stock in the claims that they're looking for unknown teenagers to cast.

- I LOVE HOW YOU CALL THEM "CLAIMS." They came out of Mr. Laurent's mouth in an interview recently. And obviously he is part of the casting process.

ljay, did you read the rest of my post? Laurents may be claiming that in interviews but, in reality, it isn't unknowns and teens who have been in callbacks. And, yes, he was involved in last week's callbacks.

No one is getting it. They just had open calls 3 days ago for Maria and Tony. They are still looking for those two. Forget callbacks. They haven't found what they're looking for. I even asked my agent

Yeah.. thank goodness. I was at the open call I just got the call this morning for a callback for Tony. Craziness.. this whole process is a mess. They're going really young for Maria just so all of you girls know. Not REALLY young.. like 17ish... but thats young enough..

You never know what they might do though. I'm just excited for it to be on broadway during my lifetime..

I'm 20. I really don't know what they're looking for as far as Anita. I'm guessing a little older than Maria, but probably not by a lot.

I'm telling you that they're going for ALL UNKNOWNS. The reason that they're looking at SA people is because they can't find anyone who can sing and look/play the part

What does that mean? Will it be set in 2008-2009? There isn't much gang activity on the west side of NY these days. West side of Newark, maybe that would work. And instead of Jets and Sharks, make it Bloods and Latin Kings.
