Oh Mods, you slay me. Deleting my comment because it's based on facts.
Fact: The age of consent in NYS is 17.
Fact: There was no credible accusation. Twitter ain't credible.
Fact: It's not an issue and it was never going to result in charges.

After all the comments Spielberg has made about streaming platforms (particularly that Netflix films shouldn't be eligible for Oscars, and his ensuing anti-Roma, pro-Green Book Oscar campaign) there was no way he would let his newest film skip a theatrical release. And after Tenet bombed in theaters, it wasn't gonna happen this year.
But I have to doubt the people decrying the end of the movie theatre when much of the nation is begging for the opportunity to dine out again. Takeout and delivery isn't enough--we want the social experience of eating at a restaurant. Why are movies any different? Movies (and theatre) may be easier to live without for the time being, but I don't see the theatrical experience disappearing. If anything, the pandemic has just proven people's need for in-person social experiences.

It's been a while since it happened, but there was a credible accusation of sexual assault and rape against Ansel Elgort, and this extra year might give them the chance to find another actor, maybe someone in the theatre community. (I read somewhere that Antonio Cipriano auditioned for Tony, and I'd love to see him and Rachel Zegler on the big screen.)"
The girl’s ill-conceived plan to cancel Ansel failed colossally so it all was forgotten in a week once the girl deleted her account and quickly dropped everything.
Thats why zero media explosion happened and the whole Twitter situation had a lifespan of 72 hours.
a whole year delay is completely ridiculous

It has literally nothing to do with THEM wanting to see it on a big screen, they can watch it in screening rooms. They want the general public to have the chance to see it on a large screen in a (hopefully) crowded theatre to have that communal experience.
But, yeah, it’s largely about money.

Good! This whole thing will be hopefully gone by then and this will make for such a nice summer night outing. I just might start planning it right now.

It is highly unlikely that it will still be in theaters for a nice summer night outing unless you are in South America.

Congratulations Hogans, you figured out how seasons work around the hemispheres!

People from the southern hemisphere have internet access too (and we even have the ability to use discussion boards, how incredible!).
are both of your from the Southern Hemisphere? I had no idea. Lousy, having spent a lot of time in 3 different countries in South America, I kinda knew that. Just like I knew about the seasons.
I suspected there was a delay with the lack of poster and trailer, but damn: Not for a whole year. At least we have THE PROM.
Do count me as one of those who would not be shocked if they re-cast Ansel (He did confirm at least his behavior to the victim and the girl being underage) and do re-shoots as early as January.

Even if they wanted to, it would mean reshooting so much of the movie. Unless this WSS is radically different, Tony is in a lot of scenes. This isn't an All The Money in the World situation.

You like to make things up I noticed so you should probably delete this. Once again, the age of consent in New York State is 17. She was not underage and they won't be recasting anyone. Just stop lying.
I...wasn’t trying to lie? I actually did just read about the age of consent via the comments of the IG post. It still shouldn’t have happened.
It shouldn't have happened? A consensual relationship with two consenting humans should not have happened. Sweetheart, you won't learn a thing from "IG comments". Educate yourself before commenting on such things. Thank you.
Be all that as it may, the columns that specialize in blind items have been suggesting way before postponement (at least as far back as June) that replacing him has already been discussed in hopes of this matter not reflecting back on the film.
I would say, in addition to COVID, that after weighing the possible costs / losses arising from a) shelving it or b) recasting and either re-shooting entirely or doing some re-shoots and some CGI, all discussed in the aforementioned column, they may have decided to take the path of least resistance and wait until for sure no one remembers the story instead. As the column points out, production is already wrapped, it was in post at the time of writing and is likely well past that by now, and as Tony he probably does have more screen time than anyone else.

I'd like them to drop a brief trailer to tide us over.
The last media mention of ANYTHING regarding Ansel and those allegations was the week of June 20, 2020 - over 2 months ago. The story didn’t get any traction, Ansel responded admitting to their relationship, girl deleted her Twitter account hours later, story ends right there. Any mention of recasting him was solely on this board. It was never once mentioned nor hinted nor suggested in the press. The reshoots were simply for additional coverage. All films do this. Once a rough edit of a film is done, many films reshoot scenes or film additional scenes if something was missed, etc.

Now that we have an actual, feasible release date (because if we can't release movies 1 year and 3 months from now I might as well give up), we might get one of those very short teasers.

Maybe you have a reading comprehension problem, or maybe you missed me posting a blind item that pointed pretty directly at them considering several options re: Mr. Elgort, including but not limited to replacing him. In either event, here's the link again. That's the press hinting and suggesting, if not outright mentioning it. Very little chance, if any, that the blind item was talking about someone else.
For the record, I, too, believe he won't be replaced, simply because any of the alternatives are just too costly even with this much new lead time, and the way the story turned out, I doubt they give enough of a damn in the final analysis to go to that trouble. But, while likely not a deciding factor, the story could very easily be a factor. I don't think it's off-base to suggest that.
If you call "Blind Gossip" the "press", I just feel sorry for you.
Sweets, legit press like Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Times. Not some random gossip blog. Hahaha. In that case, this message board falls into your criteria. Hahaha.

Disney announced that black widow was postponed at the same time. Maybe It’s just as simple as they saw the streaming numbers for Mulan and decided not to go the same route with these two movies.
Also the new opening date makes it clear that it’s still considered a serious Oscar contender ( assuming COVID doesn’t screw with their timetable too).
