Going to see A Chorus Line tonight with my best friend....very excited! The question is where to eat?? I'm not in the mood for extremely expensive....so where to go? I'm not in denial...I know NY isn't cheap, but what's fun??

John's Pizzeria. I believe it's on 44th between Broadway and 8th (closer to Broadway). It's very reasonably priced with great food.
Edited to fix location.

I wouldn't go to Ellen's (but that's just me).
I would agree with John's.
Take a look at this website for more choices. It gives you menus so you can know what you are getting and the price. Click on the West 40s link for the theater district.

Don't go to Ellen's unless you're trying to avoid all conversation with your friend.
John's Pizzeria is on 44th between Broadway and 8th (just past the St. James Theatre). The best pizza in Times Square!
A couple of weeks ago I ate at a new (at least I think it was new) diner on 8th Ave. For the life of me I can't recall the name, but it was good diner food. It's on the east side of 8th Ave, and I think it's just north of 46th Street.

If you like Chinese food, there is the West Side Cottage, - - 9th & 47th. St.
West side of the street. Food is good and if you would like, you could have
a few free glasses of their crappy wine! All and all it is really not soooo bad.
I think you might enjoy it.
Not really all that expensive too.

I agree about going to John's Pizzeria. Nice atmosphere, good pizza, good prices. Just get there as early as you can.
Ellen's Stardust Diner is kind of gross and noisy. The Broadway Diner (near David Letterman's studio) closed several years ago.

I agree with Johns Pizza, its my favortie place to eat.
West Side Sushi is better food-wise, but Kodama will be more likely to provide you with "star"-spotting adventures.
Ollie's Noodle Shop
John's is great, but there is a wait a lot of times, especially right before shows are starting, so go early since they do not accept reservations. The Palm is great, but you must have a reservation most times.
9th Avenue has TONS of affordable, great places. Eatery, VYNL, to name a few.
How is Junior's (on 45th, I think)? I've gone by it a few times, but it has always been crowded. Has anyone eaten there?
Whoops, double post...

Actually it's closer to 8th Avenue. I had planned to have lunch there on December 30 -- big mistake, the place was jammed, and since we had tickets for a 2 p.m. show, we went elsewhere. We had walked up 8th Avenue to 44th, and it was only a few doors down from 8th.
There is a diner on 9th Avenue, I think between 43rd and 44th Streets that serves great breakfasts. I'm sorry but the name escapes me at the moment.

Pigalle in the Days Inn, corner of 8th and 48th. Good food, modest prices, open 24 hours.
Try Becco--traditional Italian, not crazy pricey, good food from a reliable source...Miss Lidia.

9th av is the way to go -- stay away from the tourists and the B&T crowd. two of my favs:
hell's kitchen (9th av, just south of 47th) -- awesome nuevo latino.
nook (9th av @ 50th) -- very talented chef. cash only.
ollies is great, not too expensive and in a great location.
Sardies!!! Its got great food and has such rich tradition!!
EATERY is great..best pork chops I have ever had (don't tell my mother!)
PLAYWRIGHT TAVERN is quality and reasonable. 49th between Broadway & 7th. Very cosy too, great in wintertime.
