YES!!!!!!!!!! This is great news!

I think she is a good choice also. Rosie was mentioned earlier in this thread. Something tells me CBS doesn't want to go near her right now. Even though the dust has settled from the View, I am thinking they don't want to take any chances. Just my thoughts.
Awesome! She will be fantastic!! :)
I hate Whoppi Goldberg, so it will now be complete. I officially watch no award shows.
Whoopi will be great. And it should help the shows ratings. Especially if she talks about it before hand on The View.
She is a great choice, and will hopefully attract more viewers.

I think Whoopi's cool. She has some odd ideas that I don't totally agree with, but I love her presence on the View. Especially compared to Rosie. (Whose show I loved, might I add. I just didn't like her on the View.)
All I can say is they sure as hell have down on the hosting food chain since the days of Angela Lansbury and Julie Andrews!
I hope she comes up with a good Broadway opening number! For some reason I am seeing her doing something hysterical involving Legally Blonde.
Not really. If they put those two on they would only be appealing to the queens and the geriatric crowd.
Whoopi will do well because she wants to make the award show about the shows - not the host. Which is why Chenoweth would be a horrible idea. She gets annoying after 15 minutes, and it's all about HER HER HER. As energetic and good as Rosie was, it was all about HER. And let's not even talk about Hugh Jackman. Hopefully Whoopi's ideas implemented with her as the host will have a positive affect on the future of the Tonys broadcast.

And Whoppi's appealing to whom, exactly?

"And Whoppi's appealing to whom, exactly?"
I think that she's appealing to a lot of people, and also because of her, some of The View audience that would've skipped the show otherwise might tune in this time.
Whoopi's a good thing!
The View's audience? Oh you mean, "queens and the geriatric crowd".

And let's be realistic here. The vast majority of America doesn't know who the hell Chenoweth is. You'd never hear a commercial on CBS promoting the show with the announcer saying "Kristen Chenoweth hosts this year's Tony Awards.. Sunday on CBS!" Most people would say.. "who?"
Bottom line... Whoopi has name recognition and wide appeal. Non-theatre people will tune in just to see her. And hopefully for Broadway's sake, they'll stick around.

Any chance of the Tonys being broadcast online? I'd kill to watch them this year.
I bet Whoopi will do a good job.

I think she'll be terrific, and I'm so glad the Tonys are going back to having a host.
I don't know, I was sort of partial to a hostless Tony Ceremony, but at least whoopi has a history with broadway- enough to know what she's doing.
Thanks!
How can you be partial to a hostless ceremony? Last year's ceremony was awful.
Okay so I love Rosie. Met her at "Fiddler" and have since been obsessed. Taped "The View" every day when she was on. I go to her blog multiple times a week. But...I have loved Whoopi since I was three and watched "Sister Act 2" everyday and now tape "The View" every day for her.
That show got a big audience when Rosie came and it's still about the same because everyone loves Whoopi. So yes, even though I'd love to see Rosie do any kind of anything, Whoopi has the means to promote the Tonys now and Rosie does not. Also, Rosie is not all that well-liked by the majority of people who don't normally watch the Tonys anyway. Her show was a hit for six years (the reason she hosted the Tonys four times), but now she's a little to controversial to appeal to everyone. Whoopi has huge appeal and will be AMAZING for ratings - and she'll make the ceremony MUCH better than the previous hostless ones.
Also, Rosie has said on her blog that she is too old to host award shows anymore. (She's wrong, but oh well.) I hear she's doing great in "No No Nannette"! I just love her, but at this point Whoopi IS the best choice for the Tonys.
