I think Beverly D'Angelo would also be a fun choice for the part.
ANNE L. NATHAN FOR MONA!

I agree with Auggie27. Someone else from C&W...
I'd like to see Tricia Yearwood do it.

I think Bonnie Rait should be The Madam. Her dad was on Broadway and she is an AMAZING country singer!
And I'd like to see Dana Carvey as the Governor, doing a G Du,byah impression. And Len Cariou as the Sherrif.
I know Carol Hall wrote songs for “Sesame Street” and “Free to Be…”, but has she ever written anything else for the theater beyond the two “Whorehouse” scores?

I am so completely uninterested in this year's concert, what a bad choice.
Ooh, Calvin! Fantastic idea.
If we're looking at Country artists, why not Wynnona? Sure, she might end up eating the cast by accident when she opens her mouth to sing, but she'd knock out that role.

Let's hope Dolly will do it!!!
Sally Struthers looks like the woman who plays Fran Dreshcer's mother on The Nanny- Renee?

Good idea- Beverly D'Angelo would be wonderful!
Helloooo?? DEBRA MONK.

Isn't Struthers playing Mona up at Ogunquit this summer? Or was that last season?
Yes! Debra Monk would make a wonderful addition to the audience for this show. Great idea!
Sorry, Sally. You'd be wonderful too!
Oh BRILLIANT! Debra Monk would be amazing!!!
I still like the Carlyn Glynn take on the role, and think the uber diva style -- Dolly and her ilk -- oversells it. Mona is non-nonsense, in some ways, no frills.
How about Edie Falco? She has the requisite world-weariness, vulnerability, and strength. And apparently, great pipes.
Reba would be remarkable. I'd love to hear her sing "Bus from Amarillo", one of my favorite theatre songs.
I love Debra Monk, but I really don't need to ever hear her sing again.
ETA - Well, maybe as Mrs. Miller. They have the same vibrato.
If they do rotating Monas for each scene - I really do hope they bring back Carlin Glynn - she is Miss Mona and will never be equaled in the role.

Guys, it's the actor's fund. Don't forget these people, who they'll throw in somewhere:
Raul Esparza
Jonathan D.
Julia Murney
Lillias White
Eden Espinoza
Sutton Foster
Charles Busch
John Tartaglia
Julia Murney will be Doatsy Mae. Lillias White will be Jewel. And Sutton Foster will be Shy. Charles Busch will be Imogene Charlene (the Aggie cheerleader) and Raul, John, Gavin Creel, et all be the faggy Aggie Cowboys.
You got it.
And Marin Mazzie will be Angel, the whore in the Dolly Parton wig who brings Shy to the Whorehouse.
Roger Bart will be Melvin P. Thorpe.
Gary Beach will be the Mayor
Who, however, will be the Sherrif? THAT actually might be a good role for Debra Monk.

You guys for got Harvey.
And Emily Skinner, who, now that I think of it, might not be a bad casting choice for Mona.
Except she's a tad young.
The Altar Boyz have to fit in there somewhere, too.
You can never have too many faggy Aaggies on that stage.
Harvey will probably be the mayor, actually.
