I hope it isnt the pantages...I like having different things come to it...and not just wicked.
Oh but the Pantages is just so darn convenient for me ...
I agree Popular, the Pantages theatre would be more convenient. But, I don't see a huge show like Wicked being in small theatre like Pantages. When I saw Phantom there a few years ago, it just seemed like the staging was to small for the Pantages, and I have heard that Wicked is a huge production. Not unless they downsize the production?
I never thought of the Pantages as small. I don't remember when Phantom was there but they did MAJOR renovation for Lion King and it's GORGEOUS! If it was scaled down it still was pretty spectacular when it played there.

The Chicago Company is selling out just like the tour and Broadway Company, so why would they move it? They practically have sold-out through its April booking, so they should be releasing a new block of tickets by the end of the year. Chicago has the largest theatre community outside New York, and if it can sustain Show Boat and Joseph and Miss Saigon and Cats and Les Miz and Ragtime, it can surely keep Wicked there.
i like how everyone talks like they know exactly whats going on and that it is factual, yet everyone's info is completely different.
no offense...just thought it was funny
I however, know that Wicked is FOR SURE starting a sit down production in Baker, California (population 150).

Yes, the show is doing very well in Chicago. That's why they're not planning to move it anytime soon. About a month ago, the producers called the cast and crew together and told them they anticipated the show to have about an 18-month run in Chicago. I'd say that's a very healthy run.
Whatever the case may be, there will always be a tour. If the current tour sits down in LA for a while, and the Chicago production is still selling reasonably well, they may choose to open an additional touring company. If Chicago sales have softened by then, they may send the Chicago company on tour, since the Chicago set was the original touring set.
Look for London to open before any of this though, with a possible Australian company not far behind. And then producer David Stone will proclaim himself king of the world. The flying monkeys will do his bidding.
I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all, but it's always fun to blab about this kind of stuff. :)
The Pantages is where the tour landed when it was in LA. I think the theater is beautiful but the stage is smaller and the acoustics are not as great as the Ahmanson. The Ahmanson often has productions that last a couple of months (i.e. TMM, La Boheme) It also had POTO in the 1990's. Lately the productions have been okay at the Ahmanson, with a lot of shows cancelling their engagements such as Chita Rivera's and WOnderful Town. I would not be surprised if the Ahmanson takes it. I really love that theater.
The Chicago set maybe shipped to the UK for the premiere out there
i think that'd be awesome for a sit down in LA, though its 6 hours away from me, Its still the closest production to me. I would love the fact if the Chicago cast toured, that'd be pretty awesome, then they could do a return engagement to San Francisco!!
This thread seems to be based on a lot of rumor and speculation but no hard facts. As to the Pantages being small??? Tell that to someone at the back of the orchestra or at the top of the balcony. Bluesoprano must be referring to a different theater.
"as of now the producers are expecting the chicago company to be there for another 2 - 3 years. They won't start focusing on LA until they have London 06 ready and rolling."
I remember reading something about them saying Australia and Japan were first on their list, with no mention of London or LA, but then there are rumors about London 06, and Now LA 06...
who knows... we will just have to go ask the producers themselves.
Trust me. It's going to be at the Pantages.

Wow! You people really want the Chicago production to close. I'm really not impressed with the tour set so I can't imagine why they would want to send that to London. The set was designed to tour, I would think for London they would want something more lasting.
morosco---This is what I've always heard as well. It may not have been officially announced anywhere... but the L.A. sit-down has been planned since before the tour even came through.
...And the Pantages is the theatre. The producers are well aware of the tourist trade aspects. This theatre is in the heart of Hollywood (unlike the Ahmanason which is downtown) and other physically appropriate theatres in the area.
Yes, there are future bookings planned there now, but they can be moved to other venues. When Phantom turned into a six-year run, everything scheduled at the Ahmanson had to be diverted to other theatres (mostly the Dolittle). This is not unprecedented.
Yep. It is the Pantages. And to the person that said the Pantages is small.. your kidding right? The Pantages season is suffering since Spamalot wont be hitting LA. I am sure they could move te other shows to the Ahmanson ( whos season is also suffering) or to the Wilshire. The Wislhire is oneof the worst theaters I have ver gone too. I rember years ago when the bus and truck of Dreamgirls was in town. It was raining and there were leaks backstage. the Equity rep came out right before they were suppose to start the performance and cancelled the show.
I find it hard to believe that the Ahmanson stage is bigger than the Pantages stage. The Pantages is massive! It's also one of the most beautiful theaters, but maybe a little too big for some shows. It is however a great theater to house Wicked, since Wicked is such a big show. The Wilshire (as others have already stated) has to be one of the worst theaters I've ever been in. Every time I see something there (which is not often) I cringe. Wicked would not and should not ever go there

for some reason i have a feeling the cast will be gasteyer and chenoweth since both will be a bit of a draw from their tv careers

Considering Ana didn't renew her contract and isn't going to Broadway - I think she might be over the green make-up thing. Although, she might just be preparing for LA or London? Who knows. And I dont think Cheno would do it either. Maybe she'd do a limited-engagment sorta thing to get the production up and running?
i never specified as to how long they'd be there. Although there is currently oine possibility floating around- saycon. Since she hasn't announced a new project yet and isn't taking over for sho she could be going to l.a.
