wow... if "new jersey newsroom" liked it... i'm gonna have to rethink my feelings on it!
Interesting. Thanks for posting, ljay. Each of these reviews does point out some of the good points of the show.
A few seasons ago, TIME magazine also called the GREASE revival one of the bright spots on Broadway. Maybe they like being a bit counter-culture over there.

I finally got around to seeing last Saturday matinee. Pretty much of a mess, IMO, but you couldn't fault the cast for not doing their damndest to make it work. Just a misfire, nothing to get hysterical about. I've seen worse.

Michael Sommers is a real critic, you little imbecile. He used to review for the Star-Ledger.
I wish I had Patti's gun right now. We'd be troll-free and out of misery!

I've been listening to the clips on LCT, and I have to take issue with the critics who said Yasbek's work was not up to par.
There are some stunningly well-crafted lyrics in the show.
For example, from "Lovesick":
"You're sick of what you're saying/
You're sick of what you're thinking/
You'd have another drink except you're sick of what you're drinking."
And from "Model Behavior:
"I may be jumping to conclusions and I think I am/
He thinks I'm thin and he's got shoulders like Jean Claude VanDam"
That's funny stuff. And "Invisible" is a gorgeous piece of writing that will be sung at piano bars across the globe for years to come.
Yes, the show was a mess, but it's gonna make a terrific cast album.
