"It’s coitus interruptus, ad infinitum "
I have to admit, that THIS is one of my favorite all time snarky critical remarks, even though Bway critics mean nothing to me, except for entertainment purposes!

WOMEN ON THE VERGE - hear what the critics are saying~!:
"a flavorless mess" - WSJ
"all over the place" - USA Today
"the supporting cast is better than the material" LATimes
" a bloated dish" ABC news
" squanders so much stage talent" Ny1
" piece of sludge" - Showbizz
But I'm still excited to see the show, still :P.

again, that ABC News review is the review from the AP.
Don't credit something so important to ABC.

"I don't think it's going to be the bloodbath that everyone is expecting."
"Neither do I"
Yup. Right on the money.

Posted: 11/4/10 at 10:27pmI actually don't think it's a bloodbath. I thought that until Brantley and the review from TheaterMania was posted, it was honestly a little more "meh." Everyone says the show is a mess, but most of the reviews don't tear it to shreds.

Posted: 11/4/10 at 10:27pmAs much as I actually enjoyed this show, I am super obsessed with Brantley's review. It's absolutely hysterical. The parenthetical in the middle about the ladybug was the most random and hilarious thing I've ever seen in a review.

Part of the problem IS the all star cast...they actually felt they had to give Mitchell songs cause he's a star and the role is basically tangential to the plot (yes its ALL about Ivan, but even in the film he's onscreen for about seven minutes).
I do have to disagree with a lot of the reviews. I had a great time, even through its faults. My only letdown was seeing it could easily have been better if it had more time.

1. itjay -- can you please contact these critics and explain to them what you explained to me... it is a WORK IN PROGRESS
2. i wish a ladybug was in my vicinity when i saw WOTV... i am jealous of brantley on that count!
3. i am THRILLED to hear that he read PATTI's expression as -- "what am i doing for dinner after?"... this calms me because now i know she has developed tools to deal with her situation!

lol MB.
I remember when people tried to rationalize Addam's Family reviews too... and it turned into the "audience pleaser" show. I'm guessing that's how they'll try to spin this too, but lets face it, its not gonna be performing at the Tony's this year.

They'd need to re-write the entire book and score. How much time would you want?

Who is itjay?
Can you please point out the specific post where ljay made this infamous "work in progress" quote you have been throwing around repeatedly. Wait, excuse me, "WORK IN PROGRESS." Sorry, I had no idea that Alice Ripley had joined the boards.
I have no particular attachment to this show one way or the other. I enjoyed it for what it was, but I certainly didn't love it. However, you appear to have this strange vendetta against the show and everyone who seemed to enjoy it, particularly ljay. Plenty of other posters have disliked the show without getting nasty in the way you have. Does it really bother you that other people enjoyed the show? How does that effect you?
If you hated the show, great. I'm sorry you did, but why must you denigrate those that didn't hate it. What does it matter to you?
