well one song that always kills me is Coalhouse's Soliloquy from Ragtime. but i think this is just because Brian Stokes Mitchell slays me everytime. i dunno how i would feel if someone else sang it differently?

"The Day After That" from SpiderWoman. If I man can sell that song and nail all the high points, then he is a winner. Mr. Crivello wows me on that one.

If the guy is masculine to pull it off, which is rare haha, "She Cries" from Songs For A New World is a great piece. If you are looking for something narrative and current and rarely done.

IT as in an amazing voice/star quality. Like if you can pull off a certain song great...you know the guy singing it is talented. Like only certain guys can sing pity the child and sing it well. Like if I see a guy sing that song well I know he has a good set of pipes on him. So i was curious what other song make you go WOW if a guy sings it brilliantly.

the arrangement for the pajama game revival's "a new town is a blue town" gives a nice moment near the end- the second " but i won't leave until i make it MYYYYYYYYYYYY town"

Some Enchanted Evening from "South Pacific"
Role of a Lifetime from "Bare"
Barret's Song from "Titanic"
Soliloquy from "Carousel"
I Go to Rio from "The Boy From Oz"
"It Takes Two" from Hairspray

If done properly I think that all of these can measure certain "it" qualities in performers. Whether it be great technique, wonderful charisma, or the ability to infuse a great amount of emotional depth. Most of the ones I listed are more charismatic numbers.

Great choices Shiksa Goddess.
I especially love when a man really delivers on "Impossible Dream". And Soliloquy from Carousel is one of my all time favorite "scenes" from any musical...ever. But the Billy Bigelow has to be amazing to pull it off.

I'm not sure whether it's called 'Martin Guerre' but the song David Campbell sang in Hey! Mr. Producer was pretty powerful to me!

Actually Proud Lady is incredibly difficult to sing AND you need to be sexy as hell in a masculine way.

Soliloquy from Carousel may not be technically difficult but its extremely hard to get the character.

I am impressed at anyone who can sing and act Someone is Waiting, Sorry/Grateful and Marry Me a Little with the appropriate range AND skillful musicianship.

Yes stuff like Pity the Child and Gethsemane are vocally impressive but most guys I have heard sing these songs are all about the notes and forget to act.

Well I don't know about you guys, but

Feel the Rain Fall, from Parade is really a wow song if done right! Those ending riffs are just incredible and give me chills each time I hear them. It would suck if someone who couldn't handle it sang it though, but the original conley was perfect. I wonder what Rufus does nowadays anyway?
