WSS Lotto
WSS Lotto#1

Tried the WSS Lotto this morning for the third or fourth time and was wondering... Anyone else think it's a bit strange... or shady... The way they do that lotto?
I dunno. All the other lottos, you put your name in and they call them one by one in front of everyone. WSS is shady with the way it's done inside and they pull all the names out at once out of your view.
Maybe I'm just cranky because I keep losing, haha, but was curious as to what everyone else thought.

There was a huge discussion about this on ATC. He does pick the names in full view.
I think it's really just luck, like any other lotto. I've tried two times with a friend. The first time my friend got alternate (but we didn't get tickets). The second time a different friend actually won.

Posted: 6/13/09 at 1:33pmWell the times I've gone he's drawn the names inside with his back turned sideways and we can't see what he's doing. Again like I said, I'm sure it's legit, just seemed a bit... Shady. Especially when you're used to them calling names out in front of the theater in full view.

Well here's the video of him picking the names in full view.

that's really really odd..
which part- this thread? or the fact that someone's videoing the lotto drawing at WSS and posting it online? (ps- if there's some cheating 'proof' to be seen in that youtube video could someone let me know what I'm looking for? thanks.)

Pab, I played the lotto yesterday too before crossing the street for the Bubble Battle. (and yes, in spite of the fact we were in the same crowds, I didnt see you!)
I didnt plan on seeing the show: I was playing for someone else. Fortunately, his name got pulled (after he had played the past 5 days). Prior to winning, he was convinced the lotto was rigged...
So... as I put my name in yesterday, I asked the guy: Ive heard this lotto is rigged...? (Hey, it doesnt kill to just effin ask!)
He replied with a laugh: Youre asking me? Ha! I pull 9 names each day for a crowd of about 200. I could care less!
re: WSS Lotto#7
Posted: 6/13/09 at 2:41pmI wish people would chill with calling it rigged. We don't need to lose it like with ACL. Though ACL was actually rigged, right?
re: WSS Lotto#8
Posted: 6/13/09 at 4:46pmACL was very blatantly rigged for cast members' friends and family. WSS is just shady. I was there on WEdnesday night and he came outside with the names already drawn. This has been the case every time I've been there.

re: WSS Lotto#9
Posted: 6/13/09 at 4:50pmYep. He draws the names before coming out to announce them. But the video shows that he does pick them in clear full view. I agree it may be slightly shady, but it's not rigged.
re: WSS Lotto#10
Posted: 6/13/09 at 7:01pmIf I'm not mistaken, doesn't the guy at the Wicked lotto do the same thing? Every time I've attended the Wicked lotto the guy draws the names inside and then brings out the cards after.
re: WSS Lotto#11
Posted: 6/13/09 at 10:21pmThe difference between Wicked and West Side Story is that the Wicked lotto man pulls in plain sight all the time and alerts the people who entered that he is going to pull. However, at West Side Story, I have witnessed on several occasions that he doesn't always pull in plain view and never announces that he is going to pull.

re: WSS Lotto#14
Posted: 7/21/09 at 11:08amI searched, but couldn't find this.... If one were to win the lotto (which isn't likely), where are the seats? I'm trying on Sunday with a family friend who is 72. If it is front row, how high is the stage? Should we just go to TKTS for tickets farther back? Has it been on TKTS? Thanks!

Posted: 7/21/09 at 11:11amClumsy -- the reference is old news that wonderwall supposedly did on spite. To the best of my knowledge it has nothing to do with the boards.

The seats are front row and you can see fine. It is not on TKTS nor will it be for a long time.
There actually have not been 200 people there. The past few times I have been it's been like 50-60.
The lotto guy is such an @$$hole! He is so nasty and cranky.
re: WSS Lotto#17
Posted: 7/21/09 at 11:26amiflip ... the lotto seats are front row orch, and the stage is very high. I won lotto a while ago (after also thinking it was rigged, which is not ... at least the day I won), so speaking from first hand (and first row) experience. You see the actors from the ankles up, so if you're into watching dancers' feet, you're out of luck. The final death scene is very obstructed, as you don't see anyone who is laying on the stage floor. Front row is very close, and sometimes you'll find one of the jets or sharks looking right at you (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, cause some of them are adorable ... even tho they don't look like gang members).

So I've heard and I've seen Matt Hydzik perform before so I'd love to see him as Tony. But since they only choose 9 names I'm not sure about risking it. I live an hour and a half from NYC. I don't want to go all the way up and not get a ticket.
btw...Matt Cavanaugh is getting married August 23. I don't know if he's going to be gone one or two weeks though.
