re: Waiting for Guffman...the musical!!

Christopher Guest was approached by top broadway producers and he stated that he REFUSES to bring it to the stage. it's a dead issue. He said it would take too long to fix everything , add new stuff and he wants to leave it where it ended.

Originally before the movie became a cult hit, he had plans to bring it to the stage but, they kept it on film instead.

I'm not surprised that he doesn't want to associate with creative types. He'd probably just rather hang out with the scrabble club and other people with babies.

It's just as well though. The show could never be as utterly amazing as the movie. Although I wouldn't mind seeing a new cut of the movie that put This Bulging River back in its rightful place.

re: guest's aversion to bring it to the stage--I believe it. I read a quick interview w/ him in new york once and he's a total b*tch. Non-responsive and just not very friendly. Shame.

From what I have read or seen with him,. he seems so uncomfortable when spotlight is shone on Christopher Guest, even though he can take it as a character.

I guess we will just have to wait until For Your Consideration..his next mockumentary.

I'm still quoting the lines from the movie...

"Ya no quiero las tortillas...prefiero que..."
"We're the center of a stool boom and it's spreading out from Blaine..."

But the one I feel like quoting in situations like this is...
"And that's the way it is? Then I JUST HATE YOU AND I HATE YOUR ASS FACE!"
which is probably the best quote in the movie

I think the elements, as Dr. Watson said to Sherlock, "are coming together, sir."

No, I'd agree with 1 Train - "Everybody dance!" is the best.

re: Waiting for Guffman...the musical!!

This film would not be an easy transfer to the stage. The "faux documentary" style (talking heads facing the camera candidly) would have to be dropped or altered drastically...

...which is basically the main gimmick of the movie.

The only way I see this working is if it was re-conceived completely for the stage. Maybe a theatrical musical could actually have the documentary film crew coming to Blaine to make their movie. We could see the cameras, equipment and the crew (new characters), and they could still keep some of the "docu-style" of the original film that way.

But it would have to be different to work in a theatre.

best12, perhaps it would work in the vein of KISS ME KATE. Sort of the "show within a show" concept. But, I agree, it can't be a documentary on stage. There would be too many asides.
