I thought it was excellent. I caught the first preview. The characters are written so very well. Less surreal than Burning Cauldron. Crystal Finn is giving a stellar performance. Great set. Very interesting opening to Act II. I would be curious to go see it again.
i thought this was a total misfire, though I agree Crystal Finn is giving yet another incredible performance. there a story ripe for the picking here, and i very much liked the structural set up of these two neighboring families developing in real time.
but it takes quite a bit before we understand the political insanity we are dealing with, and then just as it gets good, the 2nd act is rife with soliloquies (which are discussed meta-style, and analyzed to the point of dropping the fourth wall almost) and shakespearean speeches that halt the action, and the ending is a big loose end---to accompany the various others throughout the play.
both Finn and Shamos are doing fine work, tho Shamos' character isnt given nearly enough time to tell us who he really is. their spouses barely register as characters at all.
packed house though, and noticeably clever sound and lighting design.
