Was Diana DeGarmo out of Hairspray tonight?

I'm watching her sing God Bless America (quite well, I might add) during the 7th inning stretch of the Mets game. No way she could be doing this and Hairspray this evening.

The producers allowed her to miss a performance so she could spend 50 seconds singing God Bless America?

I was thinking that or maybe they resorted to the schedule where they do two shows on Sunday, and Wednesday night is dark.

Let's see. There are constant rumors that your Broadway show is closing any month now. You have an American Idol runner-up in your cast. That former contestant has a chance to sing in front of millions of viewers and receive free promotion for your Broadway ("now starring on Broadway in Hairspray") show on a national broadcast that already has advertisers paying top money for air time. Uh yeah, it's probably safe to say the show's producers "allowed" her to miss a performance if there was a show tonight.

Damn. I heard someone singing God Bless America in the background just a few minutes ago and thought, WOW, that sounds like Diana DeGarmo but then rejected the thought because she was probably at the show. I guess they let her miss the show, or they had an understudy come in at intermission. Or, was the show at 7:00 PM tonight?

Well, think about it--in the long run, the promoting of the show on the game will sell atleast however many tickets were refunded tonight and probably more (if any were refunded).

What makes you thing that Diana missed tonight’s show? “Hairspray” started at 7pm and was probably over before 10pm. It is possible that a limo could of gotten Diana to Shea Stadium by 10:45 via the 59th St. bridge.

Hairspray is at around 75% business and over the horizon is the golden pot of the movie. The producers will sell their children to keep it open until then or even until the anticipation of the movie starts to boost sales. Stop worrying about Hairspray and worry about the Wedding Singer instead.

I had no idea they started at 7 and not 8 last night. If they did in fact start at 7, then it is entirely possible she could have been out to Queens by 10:45. Thanks for clearing that up.

Baseball games have no time limit. So you can never say how long it would take to get to the seventh inning streach. I think then it would be safe to assume she went in for the afternoon preformance. And then missed the evening one. I was at the game and I saw her on the jumbotron.

And producers wonder why people don't buy tickets in advance.

You buy in advance, and they "reward" you by having the "star" sing the national anthem instead of being in the show.

With the first pitch after 8pm and the additional time on commercial brakes for national TV, it was very safe to predict that the 7th inning would be after 10:30pm. Besides, 7pm was the only show on Thursday.

If any one wants to watch Diana sing GBA, it is on a certain website.

Diana was out. There have been no rumors that Hairspray is closing. Everyone is confidant it will hold on at the very least until the film is released. Also, neither Diana nor Haylie Duff are above the title stars, nor are they even leads, therefore the box office is most likely NOT giving refunds (though they might be exchanging).

Actually, earlier this year, Riedel did say that Hairspray! might close by December. In addition, Variety listed the Neil Simon as a theater which a prospective new musical was eyeing for a 2007 opening. So, there have been rumors of Hairspray! closing. The rumors may be wrong, but they do exist.

Speculation does not a rumor make. Riedel was speculating, not repeating a rumor. Plus, incoming shows always seem to desire currently occupied theaters. when a show is having a slow period, a producer (seemingly often) of an incoming show always seems to specualte about going into that particular theatre. It's not indicative there is a rumor. If there is one, then Riedel started it himself.

I'm pretty sure it was dark. I was at TKTS and wanted to see it but it wasn't on there.
