Yeah, it was edited here in Ohio. It is, of course, extremely silly.

WGBH Boston blipped "Jesus Christ", one other word I don't remember, and April's "s--- head", which totally ruined the effect. That really irked me.
I was also watching it on WGBH Boston, and I found the bleeping of April's line irksome, too. It's a funny line.

Posted: 2/22/08 at 10:04pmIt was edited here in Rochester (NY), too--all the ones that have been mentioned above, plus "a**hole" was edited to take out the "hole." This is so pointless--Jenny saying "kiss my ass" is OK (they didn't edit any of that sequence) but "a**hole" is not? Who makes these decisions? I really wish we had had the language warning at the beginning and then could have seen the whole thing intact. Of course, as someone else said, it was obvious what was being edited out, so your mind could just fill it in even if you couldn't hear it. But still. I'm sure the DVD will not be edited and I'm glad I ordered it!

For what it's worth, it got bleeped here in Los Angeles, too; "Jesus Christ", "asshole" and "s**thead" all got bleeped. "asshole" in "You Could Drive A Person Crazy" was the worst, because it jolted you out of the song and the show because the music was silenced for an instant, too.
It seems like the only place where it DIDN'T get bleeped was New York. That is just so wrong.

To those worried -- no, the DVD will not be censored. It contains the entire show as filmed. PBS was required to 'edit' those words for the broadcast, but they are intact in the actual film.
Enjoy!

You're kidding, right?
There are TONS of threads on the DVD's release (including this one).
Just for your stupidity (and damn laziness), I ain't telling.

Gypsy4 Legally Blonde was edited but the production changed it in advance...
During "Shark in the water" getting high and laid was changed.

^ Um, Blood in the Water.
I was highly annoyed by the editing, especially in You Could Drive a Person Crazy. So unnecessary.

Posted: 2/24/08 at 3:32pmThe show was censored here (DC) as well. It didn't bother me that much, except for April's "s***head" line, since it is the punchline. Luckily I knew what the punchline was because I've seen the show before, but it still really bothered me.

I watched it on Wednesday night and it wasn't censored, but it's on again right now and they just censored April's "****head" line. weird!
Oh, and I'm watching on NY's channel 13.

The Big Brothers at the Buffalo PBS station were also on duty protecting us from ourselves!
I kind of expected the edits, as mentioned above.
What I did not expect was the 15 minute parade of previews during the "intermission". The break was as long as actually being at the theater for the show!
God Bless TiVo!
All in all - edits aside - it was a very well done production, with just about all the right camera shots to enhance the viewing and not destroy it.
Thanks Great Performances!

Censored on Channel 13 in NYC area for the Sunday afternoon broadcast. I believe the DVD is immediately available if you order it through PBS -- they gave the phone number and address at the end of the broadcast of the show.

Tales of the City was over a decade ago, and you'll remember part two went to Showtime. This country is a lot more uptight since then.
I saw some people on another thread talking about they coudln't believe you could say "dammit" and "oh my god," but you couldn't say "god dammnit." While exceptions do abound, it's been that way forever. I remember ages ago when "Terms of Endearment" premiered on NBC and they warned of "candid language." I remember "bag of sh-t dust" getting through, but any "god"s that preceeded any "damn" got nixed.
