""I have a stack of plays in my bag right now that I am reading," Winfrey said with great enthusiasm and determination last week as part of a frank and wide-ranging interview on her Chicago past and professional future that will appear May 22 in a special section of the Tribune. "And just this past weekend, I was in New York meeting with producers. We were just talking about what would be the best route to take. But yes, this is really going to happen. ... Life is too short."
Another Oprah, another show!
Ready or not, here comes OPRAH! Oprah's talkin' loud. Oprah's doin' fine. Oprah's gettin' hot. Oprah's goin' strong.

With all this talk of A 20th Century revival I can't help but daydream of Oprah as Letitia Primrose!

Off topic, but what did people think of her performance in "The Color Purple"?

I thought she was great and she has the Oscar nomination to prove it. And that is why I'm not going to dismiss her wanting to come to Broadway as readily as some other people. She could be great in the right piece.
Oprah is a fantastic actress. She's devoted much of her life to other avenues but that doesn't take away from the fact she's devoted to the craft. This is going to be the event of whatever season it happens and will sell out instantly.
And I can't wait.
I don't know if I'd be that interested in seeing a show she was starring in, but I definitely think she could turn in a fantastic performance in a meaty featured role.
Maybe Tasia can be Oprah's standby.
Only if Oprah promises to sweat through her crotch as much as she does.
And if these girls are there nightly:

I think she's going to choose something with important subject matter (an ignored moment in history, a controversial topic, etc) and she will do her best to make it less about "OPRAH" and more about the story being told.

Has Oprah ever made anything, ever, not about Oprah?
Maybe the new ANNIE will be starring Willow Smith and then Oprah can play Miss Hannigan.
That's what saddens me. Oprah has great taste in projects, is a fine actress, and has access to the best resources, but her stage debut will be overshadowed by the Oprah machine. It's totally not her fault, its out of her hands.
Trying to see this show will be a nightmare-both inside and outside the theatre. I'm sure people will be whooping it up in there even if it is a serious drama.

I fully believe that she intends to and which why I said "try her best". Like Bettyboy said the OPRAH simply transends Oprah the actress. But I truly feel that she will want whatever message her show has to be the important part.
Not sure, but is the character in the upcoming show about MLK that Halle Berry pulled out of supposed to be a certain age? That role immediately popped into my mind.
I am not a big Oprah fan but I do enjoy her acting.
I've always liked her onscreen performances very much, and thought she was underappreciated in "Beloved", as was the film itself.
She says she wants to do an ensemble piece, so she's not looking to carry a show on her own shoulders. Or is that her OWN shoulders?
Guess that rules out Evita and Tevye.
"For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Broadway When Television Is Enough."
Maybe she'll just take over a role in Mamma Mia or Chicago. I heard she wanted to jump on a bed and sing into a hairbursh and she's working on key changes for "When You're Good To Oprah."
I"m sure it won't be a musical.
I actually think she'd be great as the mother in Raisin in the Sun. But it was just done a couple of years ago.
... like that stops anybody.
