The next big juke box musical is on its way to a West End stage in the New Year.
Kylie Minogue has announced that she is close to completing a compilation musical of all her hits played out as her life story. Following in the footsteps of Abba, Queen and Take That, the pint-sized Aussie has gallons of tracks from which to choose after a recording career that dates back 23 years. She has called on the services of close colaborator, friend and 'Rent Remixed' director, William Baker, for the project. 'William Baker and I are working on getting the story written', says an excited Kylie. **********
Four scary words sit in the above statement - William Baker / 'Rent Remixed'!
I also haven't forgiven Baker for Rent remixed, my eyes still hurt from the glowing white set for a start.
But as a child of the 80s Kylie was the first singer on my walkman (y'know casettes for all you young 'uns!)....not convinced I need a musical of her life though.
Maybe I'm on nobody's side

Brilliant news great director and Kylie is great with so many hits to chose from, I will definitely get a ticket.
Even better as the West End seems to have a shortage of tribute/jukebox musicals at the moment, especially as we have had so much dross lately with 'Legally Blonde', 'Sister Act' and 'Love Never Dies'.
Not only will I not buy a ticket for this, I would not even go see it if they paid me to watch it. lol

As long as Ben Elton has NOTHING to do with this then I think it could be a pretty good night out. Very camp in the same way Priscilla is but I am sure it would be fun!
Upcoming Shows: 9 to 5 (Birmingham), Priscilla (Wimbledon), Matilda (London), Cats (Manchester) and others TBC.
I couldn;t drag myself to see Priscilla either. LOL Not my idea of fun, I'm afraid. The music in Priscilla and Kylie's music if the kind of music that makes me want to scream.

I think this is a winning combination personally, I ADORE Kylie's songs (especially early Kylie!) And whether you liked rent Remixed or not (Personally, I adored it!) you have to remember William Baker is the mastermid behind Kylie's visualy spectacular tours such as the showgirl tour, if he can do the same trick with this, as he did with that, this will be a VERY exciting show!
She has a huge following, and she is very shrewd she wouldn't get involved with anything that would show her in a bad light. As far as jukebox musicals go I'd imagine it will be amongst the better ones.

OK Phantom how can you say hes a good Director? he trashed Rent Remixed.
Kylie music is fine but if the story is about her its gonna be a bloody boring story. She aint like Madonna (as much as she wants to be) who has an amazing story to tell, she has nothing intresting about her.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
Oh god - we've got All the fun of the fair, Dreamboats and Petticoats, Thriller and Jersey Boys, an announced Spice Girls show as well as Mamma Mia and WWRY still refusing to f*ck off and die - now there's another new jukebox show to get thoroughly unexcited about...
I agree with songanddance, the idea of a musical about Kylie bores the pants off me.
However using her music in a jukebox musical with an original fictional story could work, there are some good tunes in the girl's back catalogue.
for the record i kinda liked rent remixed, i thought most of it's flaws were already inherent in Rent itself, but the production just made them a bit more obvious.

Don't forget the upcoming Rock of Ages! Actually, I had a great time with it on Broadway. And didn't the West End have some shows with original scores in the past decade as well? Some fared better than others, but it's not as if nothing else is being given a chance or that musicals with original scores have somehow ceased to exist. Though I do find it odd that jukebox and catalogue musicals are more popular in the UK.
