re: re: re: re: re: re: Dolly!!!!!

Who's calling who a bully? Ya wanna meet in a dark ally so I can show you who's the boss here? I'll smear your face all over Duffy Square.

Stop trying to sway BillyLawlor to your perverted thinking and mystifying view of the world. Billy's a fine, upstading young man who gets traumatized every day in the halls of the NYC Public School System. He's made his choice--and a wise choice it was indeed.

Let's face it, Billy and I are right, and Albin is wrong!

Gimme a break! A middle-aged lard as* is going to smear my face all over Duffy Square? Who's going to hold your oxygen cannister while you do that? Besides, I'm a lover, not a fighter.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Dolly!!!!!

"I'm a lover, not a fighter!" What kind of a cream puff are you? I can't wait to beat the daylights out of you--and then have you thank me for it!

Let's face it, Albin is just upset because the kid chose me over him!

BillyLawlor like me more than he likes you, Albin! Deal with it!

DollyPop and Albin.

Wow- Never thought it would come to this. Okay- maybe I am a wuss, but Uncle DollyPop is family, and when one has to choose bewtween family and stranger, he goes with the family member. That's the way its always been.

re: DollyPop and Albin.

Family? Well then that explains it. You are insane like your Uncle.

Puhleeze...you couldn't catch me. You can't move fast enough with your walker!!!

re: re: DollyPop and Albin.

Wow! Maybe we should all pitch in and rent DP and Albin a boxing ring!

OMG. Billy, not only are you a wuss, you are an idiot. No one is asking you to choose between your uncle and a stranger. I simply want you to grow some ball* and stand up for yourself and have confidence in your opinions and not be swayed by some pathetic,balding,middle-aged,Dolly wannabe, theater queen whose parade has definitely passed him by!!!

Two words. Calm down. Read them. Understand them. Do what they say.

re: re: re: Dollypop and Albin.

Okay Albin, what do you mean I couldn't catch up with you? I've got news for you Albin. I TAKE GERITOL and although you think you're doing the same I've secretly been replacing all of yours with Karo syrup. Ha! Ha! Ha!

And leave BillyLawlor out of this. He's a nice kid who needn't be sullied by your pernicious ways!

re: re: re: re: Dollypop and Albin.

I, personally, just think Albin is being an ass. You already know what I think, Albin. I'm just siding with Dolly because he's family. Let's end this now, cuz it's getting a little too serious. Especially some of your comments Albin. If we keep this up, this thread will be deleted, so quit being such a negative asshole.

Did you hear that Albin, "Stop being a negative manhole!"

Guys - as this slips away from a theatrical debate into a personal fight, please take it to PM, or IM, or E-Mail or something of the like and let's get back to Broadway here....

See what you did, Albin--you went and got us in trouble! I hope that makes you feel good!

babs could do Dolly.

Or they could still use Channing and turn Dolly into a bad experiment in Bunraku puppetry with three darkly clothed chorus boys manipulating her and making her move, while an offstage cat in heat in a box provides the vocals.

Was that supposed to be funny? Was that supposed to be funny? Because if it was, I fail to see the humor of it!

"I, personally, just think Albin is being an ass."

I think all three of you are being asses. If Streisand would agree to do the role, it would be a major casting coup. She's the right age and she can sing the ass off pretty much anybody else who's been suggested.

Dollypop's complaints about Streisand break down to; 1) She was the wrong age. 2) She didn't have any chemistry with Walter Mattheau (sp) and 3) She played Dolly as Jewish although Dolly is written as an Irishwoman who married a Jewish man.

oh, and 4) She got the movie role and Channing didn't.

1) Streisand is the right age now.
2) I don't think anybody short of Jack Lemmon has ever had any chemistry with Walter Mattheau.
3) Pearl Bailey played her as a [black] woman! I don't hear anybody complaining about that!

and finally;

4) At the risk of being bitch-slapped, Carol Channing's forte was live theatre. Blown up on a 40 foot screen, she would have been w a y too broad! The producers never wanted her for the movie (the mind shuts down at the idea of Elizabeth Taylor as Dolly, but there it is)

There are problems with the movie. (Never get a dancer to direct- were the musical numbers that long on stage?) But it is an enjoyable production.

re: 'We have to find a new Dolly' says Herman

My apologies to anyone I've offended by my comments in this thread. I meant it all as a joke but sometimes I go overboard. re: 'We have to find a new Dolly' says Herman

Hopefully, Dollypop, Billy and I can just agree to disagree.

re: re: 'We have to find a new Dolly' says Herman

Agreed. Lol. Now, I can safely say that I think Barbara Streisand would be a MUCH better choice. I already told Dolly in a PM: I'm young and stupid, and I don't see the funny and/or sarcastic side of things. re: re: 'We have to find a new Dolly' says Herman

Emily as Dolly

I don't doubt Emily would play the part to perfection, LOL. I'm just so used to seeing that geriatric Dolly that it's hard for me to picture her in the role *right now*. I do think she'd be fabulous in a few years, though.

Babs would be the ideal choice at this time. Perfect for the role and even though she was young in the movie, she sings far better than anyone who has ever done the role of Dolly. Maybe Linda Eder would do it if Babs has stage fright. Vocally they are identical. hahahaha.
