"We have to find a new Dolly" says Herman

In an article about his work coming to Broadway, Jerry Herman has stated that when the "Hello Dolly" revival comes around, they must find a new Dolly. I vote for Faith Prince. Who would you like to see?

Here's a thought: Why don't we NOT revive 'Dolly' again?

If I want to see 'Hello, Dolly' I can go to any high school in America once every 6 years.

He's the right age for Dolly, knows the part backwards and forwards and looks sensational in drag!!!!...Besides, he does a right-on impersonation of TGC, but is perfectly willing to make the part his own!!!!!!"

Emily Skinner might be a little young for Dolly but please if they do revive this again, let's hope they cast a 40ish woman like Carol Channing in 1964. Dolly is supposed to have taken a brief break from the world due to the loss of her husband. After all what's the point of Before The Parade Passes By if it has already clearly passed the woman by?

But does anyone think Dollypop could survive the critics? John Simon would poise his poison pen, Dollypop would hurl the feathered tiara, wig and all, and hit Simon in the head and the show would shutter quicker than Carrie.

Emily Skinner too young? Not really.

Widows can be 34.

Plus, she can (and does usually) look older than 34 onstage. Did you see her in THE FULL MONTY or DINNER AT EIGHT? I never would have guessed that she was so young.

Dolly should not be too old. We're all just pre-conditioned to see a geriatric Dolly, when she should really only be in her early 40s.

By the time they get around to reviving the show, she'd be the perfect age (or at least look it). Her acting chops, and comedic timing, not to mention her vocal ability could be a perfect fit.

Of course Emily could play the part. Afterall, Babs played a young Dolly and committed to film the definitive portrayal of the part...

Actually, I heard that everyone approached to be the new Dolly turned it down because, as one of them put it, “Anyone would have to be out of their F’ing mind to follow Channing into this role.” So…

The Disney people are working on an animatronic version of Carol that will tour for the next hundred years!

Although he will never admit to it, One Mr. Dollypop did have kind things to say about Barbra's vocal ability in the film version of TWHM. He also had very positive things to say about her performance in "Funny Girl" on Broadway.

As far as who could play Dolly now, how about Bette Midler?

Okay, if I don't get the part, I think that Faith Prince or Marin Mazzie would be great. Mazie was sensational singing in the Jerry Herman tribute with the Boston Pops. She'd make a splendid Mame or Dolly. (Maybe it was just the gown she was wearing. Do they call them "peeka-boobs"?)

In my humble opinion forget the ubiquitous names that have been thrown out. A revival of HELLO, DOLLY! at this juncture leads to only one possible person. Imagine when she steps out in that read dress singing...

where I belong..."

Who else but La Streisand, of course.

The age is right, the time is right, the casting perfection.
