I'm sad for the cast and crew who will be out of work, but we all saw this coming. The show has been losing money for quite some time now, had very little chance of recouping. At least the cast was given plenty of notice, so they can find work before the show closes.
On another note, I'm glad that there's finally a theatre available for Curtains! It's like the Broadway Circle of Life: out with the old and in with the new.

It's not that Drowsy won't be around, it's just that unlike The Wedding Singer, Drowsy is actually good.
>>Although this is sad for many of you, think of the positive. Open theatre for new show!<<
Sorry for the threadjack. How long would it take before a new show would move in? On average. Days, weeks, months?

In regards to Constantine staying till closing. He is leaving December 3rd according to a ticket discount I recieved. If Matt's contract states that he is doing the last performance its likely that he'll be back Dec 5th through New Years Eve.

oh, well seeing Matt would be cool, too

YAY FOR CURTAINS!
My sympathies to the cast, crew, fans, creative, and production teams of The Wedding Singer.
Unfortunatly, I'm going the first week of Jan, so it looks like I'm gonna miss Curtains, unless of course it turns into the great hit I'm hoping for . . .

The day has come. One of my favorite shows is closing. Some might say to me, "THIS is one of your favorite shows of all Broadway?" I would definitely say yes. It was one of my favorite movies, and I watched it grow and thrive and become a cult Broadway hit. I loved the music, the dancing, the dialogue, the lyrics, the costumes, the sets, the characters, everything. It was one great, energetic, fun, exciting show.
"and a deal was recently made with Music Theatre International for stock and amateur rights."
I like that. :)
Talked myself into it, Dec 28th! Bless broadwaybox and their discounts :)
Stephen Lynch must do another Broadway show once this closes.
I got my tickets for Sat mat, Sat night, and Sun matinee. Will see it a lot before then, I'm sure!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe I came on this site and this was the top thread. Even though I knew it'd happen, I didn't think we'd hear the announcement yet. And it makes it so...final. Does that mean we still have a chance at a WS Thanksgiving Day Parade performance?
In the very least I can console myself with the fact that today I bought a ticket for a bus trip to NY on November 11th. You can bet I'll be at the matinee that day.
EDIT: I forgot I wanted to comment on the linked article. Did it bother anyone else that a ton of words weren't even spelled out? First of all, it makes it look not professional, so the optimist in me wanted to say it was fake, but it's not. Even so, I think the show at least deserves a real article without abbreviated words. It looked lazy.
^ Liotte you are crazy with ticket buying! Lol.
I saw it twice. I <3 Wedding Singer.

Just heard today from someone close to CURTAINS that they go into rehearsal in January and the show will start performances in early March.
Mistress, what are you talking about, the only word not spelled out was "b'way"? Did you see something that we didn't?

liotte, that is insanely awesome!

Co-produced by the "Hairspray" team of Margo Lion and New Line Cinema, the tuner has struggled to attract auds since it began perfs March 30.
Auds = Audiences, Perfs = performances
Recent attempts to drum up biz with the casting of "American Idol" alum...
Biz = business
"Auds" and "perfs" bothered me the most. I mean, really.

Good show. Fun. I had a good time. I'll be seeing it on tour.
I got decent seats, I'd rather get rush but spending the night overnight on the sidewalk in Dec does not appeal to me!

Do you guys think this'll affect rush in mid-November, or no?
I don't think you need to camp overnight for Wedding Singer rush. Obviously it's not THAT popular if it's closing. Being there 1.5 hours before the box office opens is good enough.
Now Legally Blonde should rush in that revolving-door theatre/cineplex and Mermaid moves to the Palace.
What a big surprise huh?

There are going to be a LOT of people trying to get rush for the final show so camping out will be necessary.
Camping out in the freezing cold for THE WEDDING SINGER?
Thank you, but no thanks.

Especially with all the New Years Eve crowds. Good luck to you all.
I don't know how any of you could sit through it over 3 times...that was my limit.
I wish I had had the chance to see this, but what can you do. And there's always the tour to look forward too. It will be going ahead, as it's allready scheduled to be part of the newly formed Broadway in St. Petersburg's innagural season in 2007/2008, along with Sweeney Todd.
