I think it's sad it's closing so soon. It wasn't a masterpiece, but it was a fun show.

I wonder what's its future in ameture productions is?
I wish there was a way to stop once and for all the constant BWW whine of "so many people losing their jobs!" when shows close. Do you all not realize that people lose their jobs every DAY in this country and others? Jobs that aren't inherently and obviously as insecure as theater. This is what happens - people lose jobs. This show ran for a decent amount of time, they will move on to the next thing, like people do in real life.
Worry about yourselves, your families, and friends. Stop worrying about people - in most of your cases, strangers! - who chose an unstable career - they knew what they were doing and they did it for their very own reasons.

But, Rath - what about the CHILDREN?!?
NOOOOO!!!!
That is not cool!
I have to say I am kind of shocked when I read these comments about the show being just alright and it lasted longer than it should have. Granted, I have not seen it, but I am addicted to the soundtrack and it sounds pretty incredible. I am going to get tickets before it closes, maybe after seeing it, I will understand more of how people feel about it.

The day has come. One of my favorite shows is closing. Some might say to me, "THIS is one of your favorite shows of all Broadway?" I would definitely say yes. It was one of my favorite movies, and I watched it grow and thrive and become a cult Broadway hit. I loved the music, the dancing, the dialogue, the lyrics, the costumes, the sets, the characters, everything. It was one great, energetic, fun, exciting show.
I could not agree with you more.
I think it was a FANTASTIC show, toe-tapping music, spectacular dancing, great lyrics, cool costumes, EVERYTHING. I loved it so, so much. So the day I knew would come at last has come at last. We will miss it very dearly, and I hope it thrives on tour and in regional productions as well.
This is really upsetting but not surprising at all..

Just to lighten things up a bit, maybe the final performance should be at 9:30. Because by the time that "Ronald Reagan" introduces "Mr. and Mrs. Robbie Hart" it would already be 2007. What better way to bring in the New Year than with a final blast from the past? Nifty, huh?
I am very proud of the girl with golden hair, Tina Maddigan, for doing an AWESOME job as Julia for weeks. May she only move on to bigger and better things, and may she have her own standby for her next lead role! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

To whoever said that someone needs to find Stephen Lynch a new job... he's got one. Lynch is a successful comedian with multiple albums.

Amen, Over_the_Moon. Although I get what the poster was saying, find him another job on Broadway. He really did a fantastic job.
Although, if rumblings I've heard have been true, after a little bit of touring some other forms of media could be possibilities. I think Lynch could take off even MORE after this.

yeah.. I just realized quite the problem. Stephen has now spoiled me. I want him to do more broadway AND I want him to get right back to his comedy!! I could not live without his comedy, but he is SUCH SUCH a treat for the broadway community!! hehe. So.. let's see... he needs to take like a few months to do some touring again and everything, make a new DVD so I can actually SEE all the amazing new songs (particularly Beelz because I am DYING to see that), and then when he's done that he needs to go find another job on broadway... but not one that last toooo too long, because he needs to keep doing comedy still after that :P hehe

I blame Constantine. He is obviously not the draw some claimed that he was going to be.
Yeah, obviously. I guess they should have hired Usher to be Sammy instead. Who woulda thunk, the AI guy would turn out to be more of a talent than a stunt.
Oh well, long live the Wedding Singer. I wish.. I could have seen it.

I am glad I have tickets to see it before it closes. (I'm going in Nov.) Just out of curiosity...what is Curtains? (I know NOTHING about this)

The musical, which is set in 1959 during the tryout of a Broadway-bound musical, whose cast and crew all become suspects after the the show's leading lady mysteriously drops dead onstage while taking her final bow to the sound of applause. The detective "is a fervent musical theatre fan, (who) allows the company to continue rehearsing while he conducts his murder investigation. He soon finds himself in the middle of the uproarious bedlam of theatrical egos and eccentricities, more murders and even a budding love affair," according to press notes.
I knew it was gonna close this day. I had a feeling it was! It is the same date of closure as the show that previously inhabited the theatre (Sweet Charity).

i was just thinking about that!
wow, this theatre sure doesn't have luck when it comes to long runs for shows...
I don't think anyone can "blame" Constantine for the demise of this show. Looking at the stats, this show has never been a money-maker. It's been on the edge of closing for awhile. Although the numbers have been better lately, they have leveled off around 75%. Rumours of "Curtains" taking over the theatre have been around for awhile. I can't figure out how the Wedding Singer could ever make money with all the discount tickets available.
There are many reasons for this show closing. I just don't think Constantine is one of them. If anything, he has brought more people in lately. I doubt putting anyone in Sammy's role would have increased the house every night to capacity. The role is just not that big.

Constantine is the LAST person to blame. Wedding Singer, save for about 3 weeks, has underperformed since it opened. The show took in a total of $15 million - not nearly enough to even begin recouping the $8 capitalization.
This has been expected for months....most of the pundits are surprised it lasted this long.
bway - Wonderful Town, Kiss Me Kate, The Sound of Music all had decent sized runs there. Not really money making, but decent.
