I wasn't griping about the source material for TWS or any other show. As a matter of fact I stated that I had enjoyed TWS. I made a general comment that seems to have gotten you somewhat exercised. The same sort of generalization as you made when labeling people with my opinion as idiots. I'll try not to be offended by your opinion if you will show me the same courtsey.
So calm down. No harm was meant.
Why do people assume that a show that flops on Broadway will do well on tour?
Is there a lower expectation in cities outside of NY?
I think people know a Turkey when they smell one.
How do you publicize a show like All Shook Up or TWS on the road?
"This show lost millions of Dollars on Broadway, but you'll love it in Des Moines?"
Don't jump down my throat, this is a legitimate question.
I know TWS has a lot of fans, and I don't mean to step on any toes, I loved CAROLINE OR CHANGE and that lost a lot of Money also.

Curtain,
I think it is a matter of good marketing.... pulling the right quotes. As we all know, a good marketing campaign and make ALL the difference. national press seemed to love All Shook Up. It was the New York City press, not to mantion the Theatre Wing, that devoted what seemed like a LOT Of effort to lambast All Shook Up because they wanted to 'send a message'. Remember the scandalous revelations and articles the week following Tony noms announcement?
Caroline was brilliant, and still is of course, but faced a very different problem... critics outside the city loved it and thought it was such a thought provoking piece, but some critics just didn't seem to 'get' it and were saying how it required too much thinking... odd, right?
Seems like no one can win sometimes.
Within the city here, I find, coverage and treatement of shows seems to be MUCH more political that on the national front. Perhaps because here we an insular world and everyone knows everyone and either loves a person or hates them.. or perhaps as an ax to grind. The national front is more spread out.. so.. I guess, it just isn't as personal??

"Can anyone tell me what time the box opens on Saturday? I'm hoping to do rush on Dec 16th"
HEY!! im going then too!!! lol. the box office opens at 10. i am personally gonna try to get there BY 7! the main reason being its SOO close to the show closing. id reall like to be there around 530 or 6 but i dont know. i think well have a better idea closer to that time though. what show will you be going to sweetq?
Many shows do very well on tour simply because they are a "limited run." It's a see it now or possibly lose the chance to see it ever sort of thing. On Broadway a lot of people from the tri-state area figure they will see it later at a time that may be more convenient. Tourists here tend to fill many a dying shows' seats. And yes, some New Yorkers may argue a higher level of expectation because the talent pool is so great here.

a few things:
-I want to thank broadwayguy2 for pointing out all of the "classic and amazing" shows that are ripped from other ideas. You forgot to add how RENT is pretty much an updated/urban La Boheme. How Wicked is based on characters in a book, that was written to give backstory to characters in a different book.
-Yes we know not everyone liked the show, but can we have some tact and not be so rude in this thread? let the fans of the show be. geez.
-Yes it was coming, it doesn't mean it makes everyone happy to see a show they like closing.

Just bought my ticket for the last show. Right Orchetra Row O on the aisle! I cant wait, although I dont want it to close!
I just joined this, and I didn't want to start another post saying "Ooo! I joined!", because that's just plain annoying.
But I just wanted to say that I'm really sad this is closing! I still haven't seen it, and I love the music and everything! I guess I'll have to wait until (if) the tour starts...I wish I could somehow read the Libretto for it, but I don't know where to find it...
Well, my fellow WedHeads.
As much as this news disheartens me...it wasn't unexpected as we all mentioned.
An much as I hate to see this show go because I know it's vastly unappreciated...such is the circle of theatre life.
I've lost many shows that I was very attached to...so one learns to think of it as bittersweet. You'd like to see it stay around longer but you know it's out of your control.
So, let's all be thankful we had the show this long and we're priviledged enough to see this wonderful cast (and I mean every member) do what they do best.
As for December 31st...unfortunately being at the performance is impossible. Not only is it New Years Eve...it is my father's birthday and family does come first.
But, I will be there on the 30th for the second to last show.
Hopefully some of you all will be there.
Here's to a wonderful show and a wonderful cast and the joy they brought to us.
I will probably see the show again when it tours, though I know it will not be the same as the Broadway experience. I know I will hang on to the memorabilia (Playbill, cast CD, etc.), because one never knows if and when they could be collectors' items someday.
And on the positive side, there had been good shows down through history that closed after one or two nights. We are so lucky that the show we loved lasted this long, with such a dynamic and talented cast, though sad it will soon end.
