This is a bit of a lame question, but it genuinely interests me. The only one of the Broadway Mama Rose's to go up at the end of Some People on record is Patti LuPone, all the others went down. However, whilst Angela Lansbury goes down on her recording, she did in fact, go up when she played the role on Broadway.
Can anyone tell me if any of the other Mama Rose's went up or down at the end of Some People in their respective productions?

Tyne Daly certainly didn't. Bernadette didn't.
At City Center, Patti sang the optional note at the end of the "Some People" reprise. But on Broadway, she changed it to the ending of the actual song.

And while we're at it, who was the first to sing the word "through" up an octave? Did Merman ever do it in the original production? She didn't on the cast recording but she did on later recordings.
You can do it, all you need is a hand.
We can do it, Mama is gonna see to it!
Curtain up! Light the lights!
We got nothing to hit but the heights!
I can tell, wait and see.
There's the bell! Follow me!
And nothing's gonna stop us 'til we're through!

Haha! Though Marni Nixon DID dub numerous actresses in Hollywood musicals (Natalie Wood, Deborah Kerr and Audrey Hepburn)... for ALL the obvious reasons, she did NOT dub Rosalind Russell in the film-version of GYPSY. That honor goes to Lisa Kirk, who shared that gravel voice of La Russell -- unlike La Nixon.
