HOT! I just read that he was in a touring acappella group while at Princeton. YUM! Someone cast him right quick!

I think he would be better off being cast in a musical version of "Take Me Out".
He looks like an elf with those ears. What a twirp lol.
ok.. um show me a bad picture of him.... so exciting that he can sing.

And this is why I am wary of this movie's being made. Random tv stars don't need to be starring in Sondheim shows. (Although I have to admit I loved Bronson Pinchot in Putting It Together.)
Well one must remeber hack Patti Lupone was in the recent revival. I hope the whole thing is cast just like the Hairspray film. I fault casting as the RENT films biggest problems. The only good casting was Dawson.

What does Patti, whom I think is fantastic, have to do with it? At least she has theatre credibility.
Yes, yes, I know. You may commence the "Patti Lupone is an overrated diva etc" attack now.
She's done some shoddy tv work in her day.
"She's done some shoddy tv work in her day"
So? She was an accomplished stage actress before that.
Well one shouldn't be so critical of Wentworth either. LOL he's appeared in two Mariah Carrey videos. Can Lupone say that much? I think not!

Ahhhh, gotcha. But television wasn't her big beginning, I don't think. I guess I'm a snob, but I think Sweeney deserves better than some hot guy in a hot t.v. show who just happens to be able to sing.
But I guess the only way I would be truly happy with the Sweeney film would be if legitimate theatre folk were cast in it. But I know that's foolish and the movie would never make any money.
Yea and with Sweeney we are very lucky to have the televised recording. It is is damn shame that doesnt happen more often.
Come on, Jake Gyllenhaall for Anthony!

Agreed. We'll always have George and Angie.
Much as I adore George and Angie, I was annoyed the other day when I popped in the DVD the other day and realized for the first time that "Epiphany" was transposed. For some reason it really took me out of the moment.
He's average looking at best, in my eyes.
Those ears... they crack me up!

How do you mean transposed, Kitzy?
ETA: I always get annoyed that 1.) Although I think George Hearn is incredible, I very much wanted to see Len Cariou in the role, and 2.) that Judge Turpin's "Johanna" was cut from the touring production. It breaks my heart a little when I watch the DVD and it isn't where it should.
The key has been changed to a higher one. I love Hearn's characterization, possibly more than Cariou's, but that was very noticible to me.
Of course, I've been listening to the revival so much lately that it's possible they just lowered the keys for Michael Cerveris. Who knows.

Wentworth Miller first gained notice in the "The Human Stain" playing the young Anthony Hopkins. So he's not just some random tv actor. I don't care if they cast a well known or unknown person as Anthony. I just hope they cast him right.
Either way, I am offically casting my vote for NPH as Toby. He is far and away my favorite; even more than Mano.

Just release a DVD version of the Doyle show and leave it at that...
That would be foolish. This is an opportunity to expose younger people and people of all ages to Sondheim, any opportunity for that is a good one. If you can get a legendary director with a creative vision and an actor who is carving a legend for himself playing the off-kilter and dark, conflicted roles that Sondheim is the most adept at writing...then why not give it a shot?!
In my opinion, NPH would be the best all around casting for Toby. He has Broadway credibility, but is known to people outside the Broadway world. Just look at the NPH lovefest that went on on Big Brother.
NPH scary thought.
NPH was SUCH a good Toby. And, if they are going to cast Toby that old, he would be my first choice as well, but I still think that they're going to cast a teenager for the part.
