So right now, there is a cast recording avalible to people who live in the UK that has the Original Broadway Cast Recording with the West End logo for Wicked. That makes me wonder if there will be a OLCR? I'm sure there has already been speculation on this in threads, but I have never seen anything done like this before...

Unless they change it particularly then I don't think there's any point. If they make it darker like they originally said they might, then it might be worth making a recording, but if it's the same then I don't see the point. It's got the same leading lady, nobody knows who Helen Dallimore is (she is probably very good, but there's no selling power in her particularly at the moment), I'd prefer to listen to Norbert than Adam any day.
Going to see it in two weeks, so I'll probably put a little reviewsical on the board.

They are also selling AVENUE Q's OBCR with the West End logo in London. The cover is yellow with black Q on it.

Posted: 8/24/06 at 2:09pmIdina was on Richard and Judy this afternoon promoting the show. She looks great. Her parents are coming over for the opening. There was no mention of a new recording, shame, I would have liked it: - )

Posted: 8/24/06 at 4:48pmI think I heard somewhere that they would be making a cast recording, but it would be after Idina left. But this could easily be false.

Posted: 8/24/06 at 5:23pmThis does not make much sense to me. If they DID do a recording after Idina left, it wouldn't be the ORIGINAL London Cast. Though they could easily put NEW London Cast or 2006 London Cast on it. I'm surprised no one's asked Stephen Schwartz yet. And it's not like they wouldn't record the show with Idina. They had Francese Ruffelle and Colm Wilkinson on both OLCR and the OBCR. They could always do it like that...

Posted: 8/24/06 at 5:32pmLes Miserables is pretty much an ensemble piece though. Idina Menzel sings in about 10 songs in the Wicked cast recording (counting some company-driven pieces like "Dancing Through Life" and counting her short bit in "Something Bad"), she has I believe 5 or 6 solo numbers, I highly doubt they'll record the show with her in the lead once again.

Posted: 8/24/06 at 5:54pmI'd love to hear a new take on Elphaba. Maybe if the new lead gets stellar reviews or something. I wish they would, I'd love to have another recording of the show. It's a hit - like Les Mis - so why not have mulitiple recordings?
#13re: West End Wicked OLCR?
Posted: 8/24/06 at 8:07pmI think they would make it without Idina becuase she is only there for like three or four months. Then, I forgot her name, but the girl who is supposed to replace her would be part of the real-original-londonesque cast.

Hopefully if they've made it darker, it'll change in the US as well...

#18re: West End Wicked OLCR?
Posted: 8/25/06 at 12:33amI say yes. It would amuse me greatly to see the wiz-o-maniacs starting threads comparing the CDs and starting fights just like the rest of us do when it comes to original and revival recordings...

Posted: 8/25/06 at 12:55amHas anyone actually purchased these CDs? Just because the artwork on the website uses the London logos does not mean the actual CDs have the new artwork. These logos are most likely being used ONLY on the website to promote the fact that these shows are now (or will be opening soon) in London.

Why would they waste money on a new recording?
There were no Broadway Cast Recordings of "Mamma Mia" or "Saturday Night Fever" so why should there be a London recording of "Wicked", especially with the same lead?

Posted: 8/25/06 at 5:23amBecause Wicked is much, much more popular (pardon the pun) that either of those shows. Plus, it has fanatical fans that will pay the extra money for another version of their favourite musical. I believe that it would be economically beneficial to release an OLCR.

LOL! More popular worldwide than "Mamma Mia"? That remains to be seen.

Okay just so the youngesters know....
99% of Broadway cast recordings are NOT released on the UK labels of Sony, Decca and all that. Those of us who collect must therefore buy imported CDs in the larger chains, specialist shops or discount websites (mmm caiman.com!). Sometimes a OBC will be released on a UK label and as happened with Avenue Q, they will change the sleeve for the UK market. Much the same thing happens with films all the time. Serenity had far cooler artwork in the UK. Anyway I digress!
The release of Wicked OBC on a UK label is something entirely down to the record company wishing to make more money and ensure wider distribution of a product that previously sold at higher import prices. Does this affect the possibility of a London Cast recording? Who knows?! All of this is complete speculation. The days of multiple english language recordings seem to have long since passed. If Schwartz and/or the producers see value in releasing another album its their call. Due to the extreme nature of the Wicked fanbase it may well be economical to do another recording but none of us can possibly give an informed opinion on that!
As for not releasing a cast recording without the full "OLC" on it... well thats been done (in the UK alone mind you!) before plenty of times. Martin Guerre, The Secret Garden and Jesus Christ Superstar 1996 all come to mind.

Wicked is very Popular in Europe...Here in Italy there are so many fans! It's incredible beacause Italy is not a so popular place for musical...Seams to be here in Italy a new cult cd as Rocky horror or Jesus Christ Superstar...And there's no movie of Wicked!!
the story and expecially the songs are so loved.
Also In Japan is becoming a cult, so I Think that if they'll made other 1000 different recordings of this show everyone of those cds will be best-sellers....
