We went to the Wednesday matinee of WSS and had a really great time. Matt and Josephina have great voices and Karen not only sang well, but she is a fantastic dancer. I remembered the movie and that helped me understand some of the parts that were in Spanish. (I do not speak or understand it) However, I really missed a lot of the drama in the final scene. As I recall, Maria was understandably upset and said something about how many bullets were left in the gun. Unfortunately, that whole scene did not have the impact that it should have being that I could not understand the dialogue. Overall however, I really enjoyed this production.
Over half of the theater was filled with high school students and I did not know what to expect. After the curtain went up, you could hear a pin drop during the entire play. I have never seen such a polite group of kids in my life. Even after the play was over, most of them stayed in their seats until the adults left. It?s great that they are being exposed to the theater at their young age.

The students may have had a meet and greet which was why they stayed in their seats.

Posted: 5/7/09 at 4:07pmNJPaul, I've read your post five times now, and what I think it's saying is that the final scene being in Spanish made it difficult for you to understand/enjoy. I saw the show when it was in previews in DC and I swear I remember that scene being in English. Have they changed it since then, or am I just crazy?

I thought it was in English as well.
And yes....they very well could be waiting for a talk back session. MY HS does them frequently.

Posted: 5/7/09 at 11:31pmThe final scene is mostly in English. She does say a few of the lines in Spanish.

I only read it one time, and it only says he/she couldn't understand the dialogue in the final scene and had already dropped the complaint about the Spanish.
