I have a hard time seeing any of the Idol contestants as serious performers.
I just heard on the radio that Tom Cruise wants Katherine McPhee to sing at his wedding. Ewww....he's trying to suck another minfless young girl into Scientology.

Jennifer Hope Wills could be successful in any medium. She loves Broadway and may not want to branch out, but I have no doubt she could be great in film or telvision, too.
Two Words for the most beautiful star!
Vanessa Williams!
yeah, it seems like a joke "I would have to say Glenn Close has been amazing in each medium, but not rightfully recognized. Poor lady" , Im sure Glenn is still able to pay her rent every month...hehe! she just got the Tony, an Emmy, a Golden Globe and 5 Oscar nominations...
well, Cheyenne Jackson has done 2 out of the 3!!!!

You know, I really think Idina Menzel is working her way up the ranks outside that theatre world. She has said she's been interested in TV. She really has a shot to be successful in Film, TV, Stage, and the Music industry. Note how I said a shot...not definite.

The incredible Meryl Streep. Sally Field.
Good call on Felicity Huffman, donna. I SO miss Sports Night! Her husband is equally as wonderful in every medium as well.
"The young woman who was in Gypsy...she played the young Judy Garland in the TV mini-series??? - I love her. So talented."
I completely agree, Moxie! I loved Tammy Blanchard as the young Judy! Judy Davis was incredible, but I thought Tammy was equally as wonderful and deserved just as many accolades.
kaboodles--Loved the Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead shout-out! It's one of my guilty pleasure movies. Christina in her prime, an unknown David Duchovny, the great Joanna Cassidy and Josh Charles--just the kind of handsome, self-deprecating but sweet Jewish boy I'd like to meet!
"I'm right on top of that, Rose..."
oh, I was being sarcastic with Glenn Close. But I guess it's hard to convey sarcasm on a message board.
Cynthia Nixon has been pretty successful (Thus far) with each medium. Okay, she has really hit the big screen, but she's done movies and have been recognized by critics. that's a start.
see i don't think idina can be as succesful in film and tv as she has been in theatre, because her jaw takes over the screen...well she could do character parts- like in her next movie Enchanted, she looked great in costume...she's small enough for tv also
taye diggs has done all three(rent, kevin hill, how stella got her groove back)
i think sutton foster could do very well

LifeoftheParty, do you remember Cynthia Nixon's role in Little Darlings? She was the cute little hippie camper.
You talkin' 'bout Little Sunshine! OMFG, I remember her! Shoot, Girl has rocked all mediums.

"Joanna Gleason has been fairly successful in all 3, usually have smaller roles and guest spots in movies and tv."
And she beat out Patti Lupone for the Tony Award

Daniel Sunjata. He was in Take Me Out, he's on Rescue Me and he could easily do films as well.
Oh...and Billy Crudup and Mary Louise Parker. Seperately, of course.

I'm surprised no one's mentioined Donna Murphy. She is successful in all three. I of course second Audra. I think Kristin is successful in all 3 whether you like her or not. Not's not really a requirement of success. She keeps getting cast in things. Marin Mazzie's working her way to that too. Stokes has done a bunch of TV already. As has Tonya Pinkins.
Tom Hanks -- one of my faves!!!

Denzel Washington- Despite his mixed reviews for Julius Ceasar, Washington has already been very successful on stage, something most are unaware of, since that success pre-dated his film career. He won an Audelco award in 1981 for playing Malcolm X in When The Chickens Come Home To Roost, and an Obie in 1982 for A Soldier's Play. Both were off-broadway productions that Washington starred in, and had roles he later played again on film. All in all, I think Washington did 17 off-broadway productions in 5 years. He got strong reviews for most of his work back then.
He's been successful on television, having first become famous of the prime-time hospital drama, St Elsewhere, which he was on for 6 years.
And his film career speaks for itself.
I think he could still do great work on stage, but probably in more contemporary productions, as opposed to Shakespeare. Like Al Pacino (an acclaimed stage actor), Shakespeare onstage seems to be his achilles heel. Denzel did a 1990 Shakespeare in The Park production of Richard III, that recieved almost identically mixed reviews to those that greeted Julius Caesar, and the New York Times called his performance "muted". Perhaps Washington gets apprehensive on stage, when faced with classical verse, which dampens his stage presence.Because other than his forays into Shakespeare, he's got the record of a capable stage actor. Though Pacino has won 2 Tony awards for his work in contemporary plays, he has never been recieved kindly in Shakespeare.
If Washington comes back to Broadway, I think he should play a contemporary role, which he would probably shine in. I suspect he does Shakespeare for the challenge, but like Pacino, maybe he should avoid it on stage.
Orfeh was a successful recording artist long before Broadway and she has a nice IMDB list of credits that even lead into extensive voice and narration work. Would that make her a quadruple threat? She was also the only thing worth watching on screen in that (otherwise) abortion known as "Temptation".
