I read today that Merle Dandridge was cast to play in "Memphis". I am wondering if there is anything more that is known about this exciting sounding musical. I understand that it is scheduled into the Shubert in the fall.
Thanks.

First preview is September 23rd. Opening night is October 19th. Shubert theater. Tickets range from $41.50 to $121.50, with $21.50 standing room when the show is sold out, and are on sale now through July 4, 2010.
I'd say we know quite a bit.

I agree - thanks for that info. It sounds like it could be a real smash. I would love to hear more about casting if anyone hears anything.
Thanks again.

It is being produced by the same team that produced Vanities...

Memphis is a very dirty city (trust me, I've been there). As for the musical, I know that the score kicks @$$ and it will knock audiences dead

Memphis is larger than Nashville?
I'm excited for this. I really loved his score for "The Toxic Avenger." Anyone know if Chad Kimball is transferring with the production? He seems to have been MIA for awhile.
No student tickets?

RippedMan,
Memphis is not larger than Nashville. Nashville is larger in size, city population, and metro area population. Nashville and Memphis are neck and neck with metro population, though. The 4 major cities of Tennessee in order of metro-area population are
1)Nashville
2)Memphis
3)Knoxville
4) Chattanooga
However, Chattanooga is slightly larger than Knoxville in size (I think, don't quote me on that). The Sevier County area (which is right outside of the Knox metro area and includes Pigeon Forge...which is where Dollywood is..., Gatlinburg, and Sevierville) is also a notable mention, but it's population is very low and 90% of the people you see there are tourists.
Gatlinburg, TN ^
Well, that should be enough information on Tennessee for ya.

Not yet. Many, many shows wait to make a decision about rush until a couple days before the first performance. I remember BLITHE SPIRIT didn't have a rush policy until the day of the first preview.

You haven't been all around Memphis, obviously. It's a lovely city, rich in history and entertainment. Of course, it has its troubled spots. But what city doesn't?
I've heard AMAZING word of mouth about the musical as well.

Posted: 7/23/09 at 5:42pmThere are some pretty areas of Memphis, but the Downtown area is just...woof...trouble. I live in Knoxville and I've been to all 4 of the major cities of Tennessee and I have to say that Nashville is my favorite.
