#1What Songs Do You Think *MUST* Make the Final Cut of the NINE Film? Which Do You Think Will Be Cut?

So with all the recent news about the NINE film I have really started to think about the final result. I know Marshall is not afraid of cutting numbers (which he did to great success in the CHICAGO film, he didn't waste on minute of film) so I was wondering what songs do NINE fans think MUST remain in the script for it to work? Similarly, what songs do you think will be cut from the released version of the movie (whether you like them or not)?
Listening to the soundtrack today I was thinking that "Simple" is very likely to be cut as well as the Grand Canal sequence and even the title song, perhaps.

Since so many songs were cut from CHICAGO.. I'm preparing myself for NINE.

I'd be a bit sad if "Simple" was cut - it's a precious song.

I want the Overture, Nine, Simple, Only With You, My Husband Makes Movies, Not Since Chaplin, Folies Bergeres. Those are all my definite hopefuls.

The overture is so exquisite. It better remain. I can see it working for opening credits.. unless Marshall does the credits at the end like he did with " I Move On" in CHICAGO.

I hope the Overture stays but I'm not too hopeful about it. It's so brilliant though but I have a hard time imagining on a film.
I think the ones that have got to remain are: "Guido's Song," "Be On Your Own," "A Call from the Vatican" (this is one of my all time favorite showtunes), "Unusual Way," "Not Since Charlie Chaplin (Reprise)," "Be Italian," and "Bells of St.Sebastian."
As much as I love the title number I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't make the final cut. Does anyone think "Germans at the Spa" will make it at all?

I hope not! Talk about the least listened to number on the cd for me re: What Songs Do You Think *MUST* Make the Final Cut of the NINE Film? Whi

I can see the Overture being cut, it seems to work so perfectly onstage that I cannot envision it being integrated into the film, even in a credit sequence although that would seem logical.

I like "Germans at the Spa" for some reason. I still don't get how it fits into the whole plot but as a song I enjoy it.
The Overture seems like the kind of number that would be recorded for the soundtrack but wouldn't be included in the film. I was thinking that also the Overture is very contingent upon the fact that the whole cast (save for Guido of course) is composed of women which most likely will not be the case in the movie.

I absolutely think the overture will and must be included.

It's the PERFECT opening to this musical about this man who is surrounded by women.

There are SO many ways they can use all the women singing to GREAT cinematic effect, and all the women don't have to be in sight. It's all in his head, anyway. I don't see why it would be cut. How else would the film open?

Germans of the Spa will most definitely not be in the movie. That subplot was heavily cut in the original, and then the song was left over. And then it was completely removed for the revival, because it served little purpose.

I do love the song though, mostly due to Camille Saviola belting her ASS off.

I think the opening sequence is SO cinematic, with all the different women coming in, and "introducing" themselves.

Guido's Song, My Husband Makes Movies, Call from the Vatican, Only With You, Folies Bergere, Ti Voglio Bene, at least a bit of Bells, Unusual Way, some of the Canal Sequence, Simple, Be On Your Own, and Getting Tall.

I think those are the most important songs. I don't know why I don't think I Can't Make This Movie isn't an important song, but I can see it easily getting cut.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

Overture delle Donne strikes me as something that would go over a main titles sequence or end credits. I just can't see how they could film it to make it not look cheesy.

Churmans at the Shpa should be cut, Spa Music will become underscoring, The Script will be turned into dialogue.

I actually think the whole opening sequence from the Overture to Not Since Charlie Chaplin is very theatrical. The way each woman introduce herself with a short monologue more or less talking to the audience is not particularly cinematic though I'm sure this will all occur in Guido's mind.
I can't wait to see how Marshall will introduce "A Call from the Vatican."

The idea of this as a movie is terrifying me since growing up - this was my mothers favorite show and has over the years become one of mine.

I of course want everything to stay but... I bet Germans at the Spa will go - since it didn't make the revival even. Maybe "Only With You"? The way that plays out on a stage it makes it hard for me to imagine it on film.

I feel like most of what I say I'd need them to keep will be kept (the obvious - Be On Your Own, Unusual Way, My Husband Makes Movies, Call from the Vatican, Simple) but I'd be pretty pissed if Bells of St. Sebastian or Only You were cut - some of my favorite moments.

Now what would you say if today I started over? Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover And I'll pretend like everything is already alright And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight

I hope that they include all of Luisa and Carla's songs, "Nine" and the final reprises especially, and I'd cry if "Bells of St. Sebastian" wasn't in it.

They need to keep:

My Husband Makes Movies
Guido's Song
Be On Your Own
A Call From the Vatican
Unusual Way
Be Italian
Getting Tall
Nine

Songs I Hope They Keep But May Cut:

The Bells of St. Sebastien
Folies Bergeres
Simple

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Wiz, your list looks pretty realistic.
I definitely hope they keep "The Bells of St.Sebastian," they could do so many things with the number in this film and it is a pivotal moment for Guido. I also love the reprise of "Not Since Charlie Chaplin," sometimes titled "I Can't Make this Movie."
I agree with LJay that "Simple" is a beautiful song and a very heart-breaking moment for Carla but I feel that perhaps at that point in the movie it'll interrupt the pace of the story. I hope Marshall finds a way to include the song. It is really important to see that other side of Carla, her vulnerable, soft side that reveals her real love for Guido.

I forgot to include on my list, I REALLy hope Marshall can include the Overture, but I have a feeling that will be cut.

I'll bet he keeps the Overture, at least some of it.

I'm sure the most famous songs will be kept - "Be Italian", "A Call From the Vatican", "Unusual Way", "Folies Bergeres".

I bet "Only You" will be cut. I hope "Simple" makes the cut. "I Can't Make This Movie" will likely stay, so will the Title song.

I dunno. "Nine" is admittedly a pretty easy show to screw with, due to its artistic presentation.

first off, I fell in love with 8 1/2 before Nine, so this is where i am coming from.

The Overture is amazing, and you just need the women singing it, no introductions necessary

Guido's Song, My Husband Makes Movies, Call From the Vatican, Nine, Be Italian, Bells of St. Sebastian, Unusual Way, Only you, Grand Canal finale, Be on Your Own, and I Can't Make This Movie-kept

Not since Chaplin, Script/ Folies Bergeres, and A Man like You seem likely to become dialogue

Contini Submits, Grand Canal sequence?

Only with You, Simple- most likely cut

I hope that Getting Tall and Reprises are both kept, since I love how it end the show.

need to defrag my brain.

I could see Overture Delle Donne being used under the opening credits. Simple better stay, as should Be On Your Own. I could do without The Script.

Apart from the fact that I simply love "Be Italian" as a song, I think it perfectly portrays Guido's sexual awakening and it's a pivotal moment that connects 9 year-old Guido to 40 year-old Italian director Guido Contini.
It'll also give the actress they cast as Saraghina the chance to have a showstopping number.
