"...Amid the harshest economic climate since the Depression, denizens of the Rialto are quietly eyeing the prospect of cracking $1 billion at the B.O. next season."
I highly recommend reading the complete article -- not only for it's financial outlook, but also for its "play-by-play breakdown" of all major shows to bow next season!
Of course, it's not much "new" information [save the "iSondheim" revue Roundabout is planning, which was news to my ears]. However, for those of us eagerly anticipating with hopeful eyes and ears what Broadway will bring us next, it is a great update! Hope you enjoy!

From the article --
>>>At the center of the excitement: "A Steady Rain."
The Jackman-Craig show could match the dizzying sales of such straight-play offerings as Julia Roberts starrer "Three Days of Rain," the Nathan Lane-Matthew Broderick "The Odd Couple" and Billy Crystal's "700 Sundays."<<<
If A STEADY RAIN proves to be an equal commercial hit as those three mentioned, it will have done it in a recession, as compared to the economic bubble when those plays were staged on Broadway.

"Still unconfirmed is London hit "The Pitmen Painters," a play from "Billy Elliot" scribe Lee Hall, telling the true story of a group of 1930s miners who defied expectations by showing a flair for art."
Is that not just Billy Elliot without music or kids?

Posted: 7/25/09 at 11:00pmI guess this confirms the "La Cage" transfer. Glad to see that most Broadway houses will be occupied during the fall and likely during the winter & spring as well.

Posted: 7/25/09 at 11:26pmInteresting that the head of the Shubert Organization is saying that all of their theaters have been booked. Any rumors on what might be taking the Cort? And is the Belasco renovation a sure thing, or is a production going in there?

Fascinating read.
"iSondheim" with Barbara Cook sounds especially promising.
With O'Brien and Mitchell doing Love Never Dies in the Spring in London I find a transfer of Catch Me if You Can unlikely. Seeing it soon, but not impressed by the score so far.

Lull89 -- I thought the same thing! Please keep that show in the UK.

Posted: 7/26/09 at 1:28am"Women on the Verge..." could sneak into the spring season? That would be amazing!
