Hellacoolmichael it is the elitist scum of this board that keeps this board interesting. Without them we would have threads that read like a Wicked playbill.

And dear cluless feinstein, the tv show had nothing to do with the actual shows on Broadway. You see, Aretha isn't currently in a show. And neither is Kerri.
Sorry that the obvious is too hard to grasp.

God forbid we use that time to maybe feature some of those neglected things called "plays".

And you all thought the Aretha butchering of Sondheim was Must See TV?
Right, because that's exactly what we're saying. I mean there is no in-between. You either have to love everything about the telecast or damn the whole thing to hell. God forbid anyone enjoy it, even if they didn't enjoy everything about it.

Quit being cynical and accept the performances and the winners. You can't change them, and I'm glad.

The fact the this show had at its disposal the best and brightest writers, producers and technical folks makes this productions failure more evident. The Tonys are a major award that can have whomever they want.
And this is what we got? Sure there were one or two decent prepared bits. But when the project on a whole fails to entertain, its short comings become obvious.
And you think Mr and Mrs America were sitting there saying "This Aretha thing is awsome"?

We don't have to worry about Mr Public basing their opinion of theater on this show.
No one besides the people here were watching it.

The performers we had on that show tonight were among the finest in the country...but many came across as pitchy and less than attractive.
Piazza seemed to come across stunningly, but that seemed to be where it ended.
I know emotions are high and people are sad about losing colleagues, but Jesse L. Martin...pitch?!? And can someone remind me what Julia Stiles' connection with Broadway is- cuz the girl has the personality of a butter knife.
WE CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS...
This is the ONE opportunity we have to present ourselves to the rest of the country, and we give them a fay host doing a 30-minute medley about not wanting to dance? And an aged gospel singer who seems to not have appeared on a stage since the early 70's....SINGING A DUET?
RISE UP! DEMAND BETTER! Write to the league...tell them to ask Mike Nichols or someone with some television/film experience to direct a brilliant awards show. This is LIVE THEATRE...We should have the advantage over the other awards shows in that we should know HOW to present LIVE!
WE CAN DO BETTER!

Someone needs to find a new "live-broadcast" director.
