I think it would be cute. If they make good songs and probably cast adults as the children like in YAGMCB, I think it would be a good idea! What do you think?

It could work. Let's See

Spanky - Brad Oscar
Alfalfa - Martin Short
Buckwheat - Andre DeSheilds (But they'd have to cut this part, due to racism)
Stimey - Darius DeHaas
Darla - Jennifer Laura Thompson
Froggy - Harvey Fierstein
Spike - Spuds McKenzie

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

If they'd have to cut Buckwheat, then they might as well not do it. Along with Alfalfa, he's the most "trademark" character from the series.

Yes, true, but, the reason that they don't air it on tv anymore is because Cosby bought the rights, and feels that Buckwheat is a racist representation of black people. Also, there were a few years where Buckwheat was not in "Our Gang". Stimey was also just as popular (He was my fave)

The characters are strong and good.

But what is the plot? For every Charlie Brown which is really a series of character studies or Annie which follows the thrust of the comic strip closely enough, we get a Nick and Nora which gave us two strong people and a blah, forced, who-cares plot.

The Little Rascals did more than just be Rascal-y, and that is the problem. What would they do?

I doubt it. In the movie they made a few years ago, they had a buckwheat, he was just more PC

I agree that Buckwheat is a racist character. Just ask Eddie Murphy. He played the racist stereotypes as comedy for SNL.

The 1994 film version of The Little Rascals is one of the worst films I've ever seen. It even dared use the Olsen twins for "star appeal."

Yes, after seeing Ragtime, I actually argued with people that that was the real creator of "Our Gang". A few days later, I was proven wrong, and I never saw those people I argued with again.

Littlebit...
Buckwheat is not racist...It is a racist depiction of Black people (i.e. poor speech, lack of brains, nappy hair, etc.) It's just as bad as Amos n Andy, because back then the majority of the black roles represented ignorance and stupidity.

And since the movie was such a blockbuster, it could only help make the show a hit.

Harvey F as Froggy? Funny. Guess he'd have to loose even MORE weight than he did for Tevye!

No. No. No.

Rugrats musical happened, a children's cash-in tour but with the prestige of having been composed by Mark Mothersbaugh.

I've worked repeatedly with a guy who did the tour. Evidently, Mothersbaugh, Devo's original Spudboy, wrote some custom music for him to perform in the show, which has to be one of the coolest things I've ever heard of.

The Little Rascals was a short-lived stage musical based on Hal Roach's Our Gang comedies. The play was directed by Robert Nigro and choreographed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, with songs written by Sesame Street composer Joe Raposo. The play was a notable early performance for then-unknown actors such as Dulé Hill and Jenna von Oÿ. It premiered at the Goodspeed Opera House on October 7, 1987 and closed on December 20, 1987.
