Top selling? Or what do you mean by top?
I would say Mary Poppins, Billy Elliot and The Woman in White are three you shouldn't miss.
But of course, there are many others like Chicago, Mamma Mia, Guys and Dolls that are doing very well too....

Posted: 9/20/05 at 9:13pmDepending where you're from. Id go see shows that are priamrily "London" shows. (Like ones that aren't opening here soon). So id see Guys & Dolls, Billy Eliot, and Les Miz. (There's also "The Big Life" not sure if its good though). Since Poppins is coming over, id skip it, plus its so hard to get tickets.

The only show I saw was Guys and Dolls. If you have the chance- SEE IT. The entire thing is absolutley amazing. I will say this time and time again: Every. Single. Cast member was great. Whether they be principal part or ensemble, it was amazing.
Plus Guys and Dolls is the best musical in life in general.
But I do love the Mary Poppins CD too..so go for that one as well!
That one about Ray Charles looks pretty good too..

Posted: 9/20/05 at 10:54pmIts really really corny but we love it anyways! Actually when I saw it this past June, the theater was about 25% full. It was very odd, I've never seen anything like it!

Straight plays are not my strong point but musicals I'd say
1. Billy Elliott
2. Mary Poppins
3. Women In White or Chicago
(If you've seen Chicago in New York then give it a miss in London)

Do not miss Mary Stuart with Janet McTeer. This is great theatre. It will be playing a limited run at the Apollo this fall. This qualifies as a must-see. The only one I can think of.
Joseph Fiennes in Epitaph for George Dillon looks promising, but then I have a distinct case of the severe hots for Mr. Fiennes the Younger so I am prejudiced.
What will be at the National or the Donmar?
The English do Shakespeare better than we do. Also the classics seem to fare better in London. Go see their specialty. We do musicals better.
Many of the musicals currently playing are American in origin or have already played long runs in the US or are about to open or have the decided whiff of "jukebox" about them. Billy Elliot won't be playing any time soon in the US however--2 years probably. Mary Poppins will probably open in NY within 6-12 months.

Posted: 9/21/05 at 5:02pmMary Poppins isn't a 'good luck gettin' tix, though' - Billy Elliot is. Mary Poppins is very easy to get tickets for. Guys and Dolls you need to book for on the whole.
