So I'm coming to NYC tomorrow. It's rare that I make it there.

Unfortunately, I'm on a budget. I'm thinking I will either see two TKTS shows, or one Moulin Rouge.

So, if you were me, a boy on a budget who gets to Broadway once every to years do I

A. See like Rose Tattoo and Oklahoma! or MacBeth. I would pick two of those.

Or

B. Just get a ticket to Moulin Rouge.

My best advice is for you is to avoid The Rose Tattoo at all costs. Oklahoma! is great, but I would honestly just go with Moulin Rouge!.

Thanks Phreak. I'm leaning towards that. Anyone know- s there any advantage to buying a ticket to Moulin Rouge at the box office vs through ticketron?

Ticketron? I havent heard that word in a billion years! Didnt even know it still existed. But be aware, they are a resale operation. Ticketmaster is the official provider.

At the box office you will pay no fees, HOWEVER, they dont handle any of the ticket re sales.

So you have to consider which tix you are interested in buying.

Also...the box office night not have what few seats they show right now still available.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Really? Ticketmaster has different seats than the box office? I entered the lottery for Thursday. If I don't win,I figured I'd just go directly to the Hirshfeld box office and see what they have for tomorrow.

Agree with D-Mama: Box office will save you fees, but they could well be sold out or only have premium seats left. Buy ASAP online while you have options.

They don't handle the RE-SALE tickets, that is strictly something that Ticketmaster handles. Once a ticket is officially sold, the box office is (under most circumstance) hands off.

Need your guys help again.

Tomorrow is my last night in NYC. I doubt I'll get back any time soon. I can swing one more show.

Saw Moulin Rouge. Enjoyed it. I love the movie, and something was lost I. The translation to stage for me. I was missing some of the songs they cut. However, I liked act 2 a whole lot better than act 1. I cried. Aaron is swoonable.

What should I see tomorrow? Just for a point of reference, I loved Anything Goes with Patti years ago. Loved Gypsy with her. Loved A Chorus Line, and the recent Pippin revival. As far as str8 plays I loved Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Kathleen Turner. And Who's afraid with her.

What should I see tomorrow (Tuesday?)

Have you seen Come From Away? It's probably the best musical running right now and you should be able to get in without spending an arm and a leg.

Moulin Rouge is great but the back of the balcony seats kind of suck - uncomfortable and feels quite far away from the action.

If you can stretch your budget to buy in the orchestra or the front of the balcony, I would recommend that

Carobie- thanks for the advice! I did wind up seeing it last week. I liked it ok. I was looking for another good recommendation.

Come from Away seems to be the biggest contender.

See Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish off broadway before it closes. It's a great experience.

I haven't seen any of the straight plays this year so I can't comment on those, but I have heard The Sound Inside and Slave Play are quite good. Unique pieces of theatre you may not ever get to see outside of NYC.

Besides the plays, as others have mentioned another one here for Come From Away. One of, truly, my favorite shows of all time. I know you don't know me and I don't know you and our tastes, but Come From Away is THE show I recmmoened to everyone who is going to NYC to catch a show. If you've never seen Hamilton and can grab a ticket the cast is quite good right now, but that show isn't going anywhere for another 2 decades most likely. Again, my pick is Come From Away. I have not seen Hadestown although everyone on here glows about it, I chose other musicals to see last season instead. Both will and are on tour however. Not sure if that plays a factor in your decision making.

But ya, Come From Away! You'll come from it feeling happy, relieved, hopeful, and maybe even have a few tears in a good way. Enjoy whichever show you choose!

Jumping in to say that I quite enjoyed The Rose Tattoo. It certainly could've been improved upon, but I found it to be an extremely pleasant and enjoyable evening. I didn't feel the length at all.

I haven't seen Macbeth yet, but I consider Oklahoma unmissable.

Another reason for Oklahoma is that its playing in the round, something that cannot be replicated on tour. Since you're in NYC, makes for a more unique showing of the production which may peak your interest. Most other shows that tour are likely the same as Broadway minus a few technical aspects. Just another thought!

I’m in the minority in that I think CFA is overpraised. Hadestown is great.

As far as straight plays one can see on a budget I haven’t seen them, but I’m hoping to see The Sound Inside and Slave Play if I make it back for a work trip before they close. Of the two, The Sound Inside has more positive reports on here. I’ll miss The Height of the Storm, but wish I could see it. It’s gotten mixed review though.

As far as musicals, you could see Hadestown (probably not budget-friendly), Waitress, Tina, or Jagged Little Pill. The last two are in previews so that could be exciting, but I think ticket availability is limited. I do echo Uncle Charlie. Fiddler is fantastic. I also loved Tootsie, but many on here did not.

Having recently seen The Sound Inside, Slave Play, and To Kill A Mockingbird, I'd say it's a shame there's not a good straight play I could send you to at the moment.

But I would cosign Yiddish Fiddler if you're a Fiddler fan and not that interested in Come From Away.

I think you need to give CFA another chance...

I remember we both had pretty similar thoughts on it on our initial viewing, but I got dragged along to it by a friend again in London and I absolutely loved it the 2nd time.

I've now seen it 5 times and it's my go show for visitors over here.
