What do y'all think of Antonio Banderas?

More specifically his singing and voice and not his body. I am just listening to "Evita" at the moment (shut up!) LOL and I am always plesantly suprised with his interpretation of Che. I never have scene or heard "Nine" (I know, I know, but somethings just occassionaly slip through the cracks).

Somebody once said he did some musicals in Spain, though I never had heard any of them.

I saw him in Nine and thought he was utterly magnificent. I saw the original production twice (with Raul Julia the first time and Bert Convy the second time), and Antonio is vastly superior in the role than those two gentlemen. I also saw John Stamos, who replaced Antonio, and who was awful. For me, Antonio owns the role of Guido Contini.

Agreed, excellent in Nine and Evita . I also liked him in Zorro. Very attractive guy and I hear very nice....as long as he's stays away from POTO.

He was utterly amazing as Guido.

I think he was robbed of the Tony for Nine by giving to Harvey for playing himself in drag. DUH.

Anyway, Antonio was probably the most dynamic, charismatic, giving-110% person I've ever seen on a Broadway stage. He was absolutely wonderful. AND gracious as hell at the stage door. He was obviously having fun doing what he was doing, and his love for Broadway was infectious.

YUMMY! Oh sorry what did you mean!! Ummm, I think he is VERY talented too! LOVED his Che and the clips I saw from Nine, he seemed just PERFECT for that role.

Well...Harvey did a lot more than play himself in drag. It was a masterful performance. But so was Banderas'. If any Tony category ever called for a tie, it was this one.

I don't care for his anything...
I hold a degree in Musical Theatre from Montclair State University. It is useless. Now I'm funny for money. Oh, and I sing.

The first time I heard Antonio sing was on ALW's 50th birthday concert, and I wasn't impressed. Then I saw him in Nine, and every bad thought I ever had was immediately wiped away. He was an incredible and very genuine Guido, his singing was powerhouse, and he was horribly sexy! I hadn't seen the Evita movie before then, but seeing him in Nine made me rent it, and I loved his performance in that as well; seeing him in the back of the van singing A New Argentina is one of my favorite moments in the entire film.

He didn't really do anything for me in EVITA - I didn't think he was great, I didn't think he was bad - he was just kind of there.

I saw him in NINE four times, and the first time I saw it I left that theatre moved in a way that I had never been moved before by a musical. I think he is a brilliant, brilliant, criminally underrated actor who has yet to really get a big Oscar worthy on-screen role. His voice is gorgeous, and I thought he was brilliant in every sense of the word in NINE.

And yes, he absolutely was robbed of a Tony Award - Harvey Fierstein did not deserve that award for his "performance."

I have the cast recording to Nine and Ilove Antonio Bandares. I haven't seen Hairspray or Nine and the only reason I would say Antonio deserved to win is because Harvey Fierstein has an awful voice.
