Curious as to peoples thoughts on this. When I have friends who are visiting in NYC they often ask me what show I would recommend they see. To me that question is like asking how long is a piece of string- there is no one correct answer. My current go to is TKAM as I think that was one of the best pieces of live theatre Ive ever seen although I dont know how the current cast stacks up. For musicals I tend to recommend CFA. Being Canadian its a story people know here and at around 100 minutes its great for friends whose spouses arent super stoked on going to the theatre. I dont often recommend the big shows such as BOM, lion king, wicked cus they come through Vancouver fairly regularly. When I make show recommendations Im mindful of cost so while I encourage friends to see Hamilton its out of most peoples price point.
Im now in a spot where Im looking for one more show for my trip in spring when Im lucky enough to see 9 shows so just curious what peoples recommendations are and why.

Company or Beetlejuice, or Come From Away. If theatre fans, Company no question and Hadestown. Hamilton is so tired now and a lot of the replacement cast are not of broadway quality.
I’m in the minority. I didn’t love TKAM. It was staged interestingly. And had some good actors (though I still question the idea of using adults in the kids roles but I guess i got over that.). But this is my favorite book and this is not it.
That said, I am really eager to see Company and Mrs Doubtfire ..the casts are incredible. And SIX is just so much fun.
Hadestown, it's just breathtaking. Certainly a bit more heavy going than Come from Away (which is also my go-to choice to recommend) but has some lighter moments, and the music just takes you to another place. Certainly the best thing I've seen in a theatre in years, and I've seen a lot of great shows.

I haven't seen Hadestown since last April. Yet every time I see a clip from the show of Reeve Carney singing Wait For Me, it takes my breath away. When I saw the show, I literally said "wow" out loud at one point. It's truly a stunning show.

You're so lucky!! That's an incredible line up! Since your shows are very musical heavy (even with Take Me Out in there) I'd like to put emphasis on The Play That Goes Wrong.
People have mentioned watching videos of Reeve online but seeing him sing "Wait for Me" live is an experience all in itself. The best part is at the very end of the song they turn the lights on you and the cast can see your reactions. I was in the front row of the mezz, my jaw was dropped halfway to the floor and André de Shields was smirking up in my general direction :' . Absolutely insane talent. Whether you're a crier or not, you WILL cry.
Also André's entrance is worth paying the entire price of the show just to see. Plug over.
I think that Hamilton is fine; there are insanely talented actors playing the roles and yeah, if you have the sound of Lin's Hamilton in your head when you go and see it, it's going to be weird at first but I thought my Hamilton was better than Lin.
