A hot summer night. The streets are so brightly illuminated you can perform surgery. It's midnight. The shows have let out and many of the side streets are empty. The crowds are still milling around Times Square and on Broadway itself but outside most of the theaters, the doors are closed thegates are down and the lights are out. And I'm nineteen or twenty again, walking down the street, picking up theater programs that have been disgarded by theatergoers which I'll eagerly pour over all night long in my hotel room. And maybe this is one of the trips I took to the city with my parents, who, still several decades before they slipped behind the veil of alzheimer's disease were still working in the theater and were still able to tell me how proud of me they were for following them into this profession unique.
Goddamn disease.
Hey, anyway, Horton (he says as he silently stops crying) thanks for getting me thinking. Sunday I'll call the nursing home and see if I can get my mother to remember anything about Broadway and if she does, you'll be the second ones to know....

I think of the gloriousness (is that a word?) of performing on a brightly lit stage with beautiful music and an awesome cast. I think of fast-paced city life and Starbucks on every corner. I think of 42nd Street (the musical!) and the song "Lullaby of Broadway".
And the Tony Awards.
Which reminds me...Today I saw a license plate whose first three letters were BWW and I wanted to shout "BroadwayWorld!"
