So, this is probably a dumb question, but it's something I've always been unclear about- when someone says the "2015-2016 season" does that include JUST shows that opened this season, or does it encompass every show running on Broadway this season?

shows that opened after the current year's Tony Awards and before the cut off date for the next Tony nominations compromise a Broadway season, if I'm not mistaken.

Currently running shows (> 1 year old) of course still make up the season, but they can't get nominated for anything, obviously.

The thing is, besides being an utter toad of a human being, Riedel usually has the least knowledge of the topic in the room. He doesn't usually understand the content or approach of a show, and is always completely and unfailingly socially ignorant, which makes it really infuriating when Susan can't get a word in edgewise. A definitive mansplainer; it's always painful when he has female guests. I watch the show sporadically when I really want to see a guest, because it's the only theatre talkshow we have, but it would be so much better without this hateful clown in a dadcoat. When people discuss "the season" they are referring to only the new shows opening.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Was an act of God apart of last season or this season? Because it opened after the tony nomination cut off date, but before the Tonys. So can it still be nominated for this seasons tony awards?

To continue the "should know this but don't" questions, when *is* the cut off date for Tony nominations?

I believe Playbill defines a season as June 1st - May 31st.

An Act of God will be eligible for Tony nominations for this coming award season.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

I wonder if the Tony voters will remember an Act of God.. I remember a poster saying the Tonys are a pretty "out of sight, out of mind" awards.

I don't see act of God getting Tony nominations. Aside from the timing, I actually enjoyed it tremendously but it seemed more like stand-up comedy than a play. Just like Fish in the Dark (which again I really enjoyed) was basically a prolonged Seinfeld episode didn't get any nominations.  I loved them both it didn't surprise me that FITD wasn't nominated and I won't be surprised if Act of God doesn't either.  I'm no Tony expert though so what do I know?

You don't put up a limited run play in the May-July time span and expect any Tony recognition.  Not their intent at all.
