Believe it. I saw both actresses. Chenoweth played the dumb blonde all the way through. There was no real depth.
Thompson however added an interesting layer. You could tell she was always trying to fit in, that Galinda was really a very insecure girl, and during some moments, her intelligence would shine through, but she would yank it right back because she didn't want to be different. You saw much more internal struggle during the end of Act 1 and "Thank Goodness." And when she came into her own at the end, you could see the powerful Glinda that we all think of. Not to mention, playing "Popular" as if she'd had a bit too much to drink was BRILLIANT.

I'm back, and yes, if you compare current Glindas to Chenoweth's, there are not many similarities.
Chenoweth is a fanastic actress who has played better roles. I found her forgettable. She had no BIG ENERGY, as the character is directed to have nowadays. Not that she didn't have energy, but her characterization was reserved.

I don't know....no offense to the performers, but Glinda isn't really a role I'd associate with "depth." The role is written the way Chenoweth played it - a dumb, vindictive blonde who wants her way.
I've always assumed that "For Good" at the end was just another way of brushing Elphaba off.
But that's just me.

It's wicked. the only ones at wicked who AREN'T bored are the nutjob fans in the audience with badly painted green faces and pointy hats who cry when elphaba dies and think that elphaba is a rock star and the show is actually good. all of these things, however, we know to be false.
That is the BEST thing I've ever read in my entire life. I think that she is probably taking a little time off from the crazies that she's picked up whilst doing Wicked. I hope that when she comes back she does something completely weird and not-mainstream. She is a tremendous talent and my favorite performer ever.
I hate Wicked.

Posted: 3/1/07 at 10:14pmA friend of my aunt's (and the one who gave me a backstage tour of Wicked), she's most definitely taking time off for her baby. I believe his name is Tommy (but now that I realize that it would be Tommy Thompson, I might take that back), and in October 2004, he was still being breast-fed, if that might give any inclination as to age.

Posted: 3/2/07 at 2:12amhusk_charmer, I was only able to see Thompson through videos from the forbidden site, but is that why Thompson makes Glinda sound extremely SpEsHuL during her numbers?

Her husband has a different last name then her ergo her son's name is Tommy (Insert Father's Last name). He just about 3 years old as of right now seeing as how he was born late December 2003/early January 2004.
Vietgrl...your post makes no sense.

Chenoweth was good in the role, but really rather forgettable.
I have not heard one person say that Chenoweth was more forgettable.

A few years ago, someone on BWW posted the same thread question and I remember someone said that she is still being offered work. Including being asked to replace Sherie Rene Scott in Dirty Rotten, asked to audition for Mary Poppins when it transferred, and also Grey Gardens.
But she turned it all down to concentrate on raising her baby...

Hello, wonder if someone can help me.
I tried on the Autograph Post but couldn't get a response from anyone.
I know that JLT is not in any show at the moment and theres not an address for her. I was thinking of sending a letter addressed to her at the Gershwin Theatre. I had that luck a few months ago with Carole Shelley and they forwarded it to her, so should I send JLT a letter to the Gershwin and hopefully they can forward it to her?
Thanks

Posted: 7/6/07 at 7:52amFrom what I've seen of JLT in Wicked, she has easily been my favorite Glinda. The first time I watched her in it, I was crying--I was laughing so hard. The girl is fierce and she needs to return to Broadway...like now.
