What happens when the RENT movie comes out?

I just hope there aren't any more fandoms... ever... for which people adopt a name such as "XShow-head" and use it as if it were a major apart of their identity like belonging to a certain religion or race.
A whole board for Rent = Livejournal and IMDB. But who am I to resist the idea of all the threads about Rent moving to a forum of their own, with the Main Board becoming "Everything Else Broadway"?

When people start threads about Matthew Broderick's hair, that'll be the day....
I honestly feel a little funny. All of the anticipation is gone! I woke up the morning after I saw it, and was like "what now?"

Posted: 11/17/05 at 12:41pmyea it's gonna be so weird. We basically spent the past year following this so closely and now that'll be it. It'll be over, so strange. No more blogs, appearances, clips, trailers, countdowns, etc.

It comes in waves. There have always been Rent-heads on this board... there have been Rent-heads for 10 years now... there will Rent-heads years from now...
They're just coming forward now, (like the obsessive Wicked fans did in '03-'04) because the show is in the news. If we DIDN'T have this many threads populating the boards, I'd be surprised. I completely agree that it can be a pain to scroll through 'em all and answer the 85 repetitive questions... but it was bound to happen.
I think we know by now that people seem to have a genetic defect which causes an inability to use the search function on these boards.
In the end, just hang in there, I guess. This will all die down to be replaced by the next thread trend before too long. I think I'll follow xxnewgirlxx's idea and stay away from the boards for a few days after the movie is released. There are some reactions from SOME people which I am genuinely curious to read, and I'll look for those after the wave of "OMG!! AMAZING!! OMG!! ADAM!! OMG!! IDINA!!" has passed.

Evelyn, maybe you prefer IMDB and LJ, but I personally like to discuss Rent with people who have intelligence and use proper English.
And after the Rent movie comes out, I plan on making up for these past few months by starting a new Wicked post every time I'm on. I've always wondered who everyone's favorite Elphaba is.
Wanting life but never knowing how
#38re: What happens when the RENT movie comes out?
Posted: 11/17/05 at 12:59pmI don't really contribute to the IMDB or Livejournal discussions. There are so many people posting on IMDB that anything I'd think to say has already been said (and barked at or upheld) by the time I arrive. There is usually a lone voice - never the same person - and then about thirty people disagreeing with it.

"What happens when the RENT movie comes out?"
well basicly movie theaters pick times for it to be shown, thousands of people flood to the movie theaters, purchase a ticket...then sit and watch the movie...maybe starbucks afterwards.
wait till the movie comes out and then we'll all know what happens...obv.

The movie is going to come out. And people are going to be obsessed for quite a while...and its gonna be ok. I promise.
These things happen.
But then there will be something new to be obsessive about.
But I think a lot of it is going to be around for a long time.
And again, it will be ok.

Posted: 11/17/05 at 3:53pmI think a lot of RENTheads are going to be feeling very empty inside very soon. The only person I feel really bad for is emcee. I feel like I should send a muffin basket in sympathy that there's nothing to look forward to in the immediate future.

I see it getting worse...with new fans asking newbie questions...
I think so, too.
I don't think Producers movie will have near as many obsessive posts as RENT has.
I quite frankly don't care about the Dreamgirls movie. Just an excuse to get a bunch of famous divas with big voices together in a movie.

I will be incredibly glad once this is all over.
I started off very excited about this movie- my search for information following its announcement is what led me to bww. But then things began to happen that I could not be a part of- meeting actors, set visits, The Coming Of Anthony Rapp (also known as God), pre-screenings....
It became like everything else Broadway- too far to touch. So what? The Rent movie is a complete experience and it's only for a privileged few. I'm bored of reading about it. Either include me or make it go away. This movie is like the friend who throws a party, doesn't invite me and then has to talk about it throughout the following week, only to move onto another party once the latest has been exhausted.
I hate to say it, but the hype has almost turned me off from the show entirely. When I listen to it now, all I hear are bww posters. The actual MUSICAL has been lost in this cloud of "specialness".

Why on EARTH would you say that? She's had the most incredible experience I can imagine with this movie. Should we more greatly pity those who lose something they always knew was temporary or those who never had it at all?
At least she had something to look foward to in the past. That's a **** of a lot more than I can say.

Posted: 11/17/05 at 4:07pmi know what you mean.. although i do live in NY i havent had the opportunity to go to any events that I wanted to-- sometimes it really sucks to be young. There are times when I find myself wishing that this wasnt going to be a movie..just because I think it might lose the thing that makes it so special. I don't know ..its hard to explain.

Seriously, please, please, PLEASE don't feel sorry for me. This year's been like a dream. Soon it's going to be out there, people will (hopefully) love it, and I can see it for way cheaper than a Broadway ticket whenever I want. And my life is definitely not going to become some depressing hell now that the movie's being released.
There'll be other things... and this all isn't going to be something I forget any time soon.
