I think she was, but I haven't heard anything about it lately.
I've never had a chance to see Carolee on stage, but I have very fond memories of her from "Remember WENN." She was terrific.

John and Jen is still one of my favorite recordings of hers, who could be blue.

The woman is just phenominal.

Oh god. You know, I'm not such a big Mamma Mia fan, but if Carolee came back? I'd see it fifty times. (I like it considerably more than I liked Lestat, which I saw... more times than I care to admit, just for Carolee.)
I'll take her in ANYTHING right about now, I love this woman so much it's insane.

Well, she's got to work. :)
I'd be thrilled to see her in Mamma Mia, honestly, but I'm still holding out hope for a new show where Carolee can just SHINE. A really good one. Because, I mean, she was amazing and wonderful in Lestat, but Lestat did not join her in the amazingness and wonderfulness. I want a wonderful show for Carolee to be wonderful in. Pleeeeease.

Exactly, Keaton!
Carolee needs a NEW show, one that she can develop the character and be fully associated with it. While we all had hoped it was Lestat, unfortunately it wasn't.
While I would have LOVED to have seen her portrayal of Margaret in Light in the Piazza, she needs something new.. something of her own (OMG, does that sound like a Sondheim lyric there?
)
Someone needs to encourage Sondheim, Finn or the many up and coming composers to take advantage of her incredible talents!
Wait a minute... thinking of that lyric... we've heard that Sunday in the Park with George is headed back to Broadway. Wouldn't Carolee make the PERFECT Dot? :)

Posted: 8/10/06 at 1:46pmI would love to see her originate a role on Broadway and have that show be a hit. Her latest two original roles on Broadway in PARADE and LESTAT both flopped...so sad. She needs an original hit!!

At least Parade has credibility, she sounded perfect in that. I think that is my favorite thing she has done, I even loved her in Lestat, she had the 2 best songs. But her as Dot..I would cringe a little. I'm sure it won't be hard for her to find some more work. The matter is the quality! I don't think Mamma Mia will satisfy that

Posted: 8/10/06 at 2:07pmShe is one of my favorite all-time performers. She even made that awful material in Scarlett Pimpernell actually make some sense. I adore her voice, and her style is just outta this world. I loved her solo from Evita at Broadway in Bryant park - it was fantastic - why hasn't she played that part???

Why would that make you cringe, C is for Company? I think Carolee might be a little old to play Dot, but she'd still probably be phenomenal. I would love to see her in the part.
Still. Even Carolee starring in a revival of one of my favourite shows isn't enough. I want what she should have had with Parade, a part that she'll be known for in a show that will do well. Lestat wasn't worthy of her talent, but the dedication she brought to the role just blew me away. Someone write a show for this woman, stat.

Posted: 8/10/06 at 2:14pmI have such an impression of the role of Dot and seeing her in it would not what I'd want it to be. I would cringe because I can just hear her singing the title song. I could not picture hearing that at all. She would be wrong for the part IMO. I would love to see her in many things, but not that. If thinking more along the lines of Sondheim she would soon be great for the part of Desiree in ALNM.

Posted: 8/10/06 at 2:15pmKathy Lee Gifford wrote SAVING AIMEE, which Carolee starred in. Kathy Lee did mention she had plans to bring the show to Broadway but since its two-week run in White Plains, we've heard nothing about it. I thought the show and Carolee were fantastic.

I agree with everyone... a revival or replacement is just not the proper use of Carolee's talent!
Has anyone heard the recording of her singing "Move On" from the Sondheim Birthday Tribute with her husband? She sounded PHENOMENAL.
I think I would much rather hear her singing the soaring notes in Sunday rather than seeing her in the role of Desiree, which I consider to be almost a non-singer role.
She needs to be given the opportunity to blow audiences away with that glorious high belt of hers! :)

I have always wanted to see her as Evita or Norma Desmond.

Yes, she mentioned that she wanted to be a part of the DC Production of "Saving Aimee" formely "Hurricane Aimee" about an Evangelist in the 20's & 30's at the Signature Theatre Directed by Eric Schafer. Then she also has done/will do a reading of a new musical by Joe Masteroff based on "Anna Christie", which is a play by Eugene O'Neil that both her and her husband will perform.

Posted: 8/10/06 at 6:55pmI got to be a huge fan of Carolee when she did Lestat, which I still love and support. She is truly one of the nicest actresses I've ever known from meeting her at the stage door. It would be a shame if after NYMF a show doesn't snatch her up. I'd like a Mamma Mia return, actually. I've never seen that show and remember so vaguely the Winter Garden.

Posted: 8/10/06 at 7:54pmI saw Saving Aimee too and thought it was awesome. Much better than most of the crap on Broadway last season (Lennon, In My Life, Ring of Fire, etc.).
