re: What is Diana talking about in the song 'What I Did For Love?'

As the previous poster said, she is talking about what she has done in her life for her love of dance.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Havent you ever had a goal you've wanted SO badly that you've sacrificed and done ANYTHING to reach it?

Right before she starts singing the song, Zach says something to the dancers along the lines of,

"What would you do if you couldn't dance anymore?"

(Someone can correct me with the exact line.)

"Winning a Tony this year is like winning Best Attendance in third grade: no one will care but the winner and their mom."
-Kad

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Zach asks:
"What would you do if you couldn't dance anymore?
How would you feel?"

Morales replies:
"Kiss today good-bye..."

It's the message of the show.
"If my life weren't funny, it would just be true. And that would be unacceptable." --Carrie Fisher

"What I did for Love." in other words:

What I gave up to pursue a life in the arts; stability, financial security, relationships - the sacrifice to be an artist.

The rest of the song is about how she will have no regrets about making those choices, even when the time comes when she can no longer be a dancer.

Not only dance but for those of us in the audience who may not be performers, by extension metaphorically, it's a paean to ANY passion one has pursued for the sheer love and joy it's given you over and beyond any potential financial, career or practical benefit it might have also conferred. If you've ever made a sacrifice in order to do something you loved, regardless of any other consideration, this song should speak to you.

This thread makes me weep!

"I hate that Diana Morales. Shes a cow and she's always singing songs I can't understand the lyrics to."

And she was always holding up acting class by whining "I'm not feeling it". Cripes, how hard is it to be an ice cream cone and melt?

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
