I would think that in terms of modern shows (2000-present)- Radames and Peter Allen qualify.
Sweeney Todd is the most complete incredible role and George from Sunday in the Park is a definit Second.

That was my exact list!!! Come on guys, Marvin SO belongs on there!
Hmmm --- it really all depends on what you're looking for. If we're using Mama Rose as the female counterpart then my vote would have to go to either Albin/ZaZa or Sweeney for the sheer melodramatic, often larger than life aspect. Not to mention the strong vocal and physical demands of both. Just my opinion.

I think Tevye is the Mama Rose equivalent, but I think Don Quioxte is a truly great role

albin is not a hard role vocally at all. georges is more difficult in the show and even that is an easy role to sing.
marvin definitely belongs on this list.
so does guido contini.
I like
Hajj in KISMET
Don Quixote in LA MANCHA
Barnum in BARNUM
Phantom in PHANTOM
I think those would be my picks

Playing the Phantom is a bummer. You spend more time in the make-up chair than you do on stage - it's been stated that he is actually on stage for less than 35 minutes. And then when he is on stage, half his face is covered!
