I ahve to agree with Aaron27. Billy Bigelow.
Dancergirl ~~ Are you really rooting for Sweeney Todd when he is killing?
Don't get me wrong...Sweeney Todd is one of the richest roles one can play, but I don't know if the appeal of the show is that Sweeney gets his revenge.
The characters are a mess! Mrs Lovett and Sweeney don't have any redeemable qualities.
I believe most people who enjoy the show (watching it for the first time) are just completely horrified by the massacre on the stage and the brilliance of the lyric and score.
I think the intrigue of the show is how the story plays out.
But then again...to each his own.

Don Quixote.
No other role blends humor, pathos and a huge singing range quite the way this role does.

Having played tons of roles, I would have to say Harold Hill in THE MUSIC MAN is the greatest one to play.
Sweeney Todd came to mind instantly....Teyve is a good choice too....

Billy Bigelow. The "Soliloquy" alone is enough to merit such a title.

Sweeney was the first one that I thought of too. Other than that, I'd have to say Valjean, Henry Higgins, Billy Bigelow, and Max Bialystock all come to mind.
Well, you're all obviously forgetting the title role in Its a bird, its a plane, its Superman.
Yeah, I'm totally kidding. I agree with Tevye, Billy Bigelow, Harold Hill, Sweeney Todd, Valjean, Max Bialystock, Sky Masterson, The Emcee, Guido, and Don Quixote.
I totally disagree with Mark/Roger from Rent. Great parts, yes, but among the greatest...no. (And I love Rent, but this is my opinion. Opinion, as in we're all entitled. Remember that?)
Guido or Sweeny. Munk- i'm w/ you.

Does Angel from Rent count? If it does, I say Angel because he brings us such a beautiful message and look at life. :)

{I actually really dislike the part of Jean Valjean. I think his part is bland and boring to listen to. Javert is much more interesting, much more 3-dimensional... and thrilling to watch, especially when done the right way}

Coalhouse Walker and Billy Bigelow are probably the two greatest male roles.

I would think that in terms of modern shows (2000-present)- Radames and Peter Allen qualify.
