Rent was extremely loud when I saw it. My friend actually covered her ears during the title number.
Wicked was also loud. Maybe it was because I was sitting in the first row, or maybe the mics were just turned way up, but some songs, especially Defying Gravity, were almost deafening.

Altar Boyz. My whole body was shaking from the bass, and I was only in the fifth row.
Tarzan. I had a headache after from all the gunshots.

Oh God, Wicked was loud and it's gotten louder since I first saw it.

We Will Rock You here in Vegas. LOVED it (I think I'm one of the like, five people that enjoyed it, but whatever), but ouchhh.
Movin' Out wasn't too loud for me, but I was pretty far back when I saw it, and to be honest, I was so engrossed with the dancing that I didn't notice the music as much as I probably should have.
STOMP was loud, but I loved it anyway. I saw that too long ago to really remember it clearly (in San Francisco, I think), but it was so awesome.

lilprima2b- Thank you for reminding me! We Will Rock You in Vegas was really loud, but really fun at the same time. It was mindless fun (refering to the story). It was the only place to see it in the U.S. (I'm happy I did, since it's been closed since last September). The amplification was sky high, but it had reason, because it is called a "rock theatrical"!

Well Dreamgirls at the Prince Music Theatre in Philly.
The show wasn't loud, but the audience! So Loud! :-p

...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...

DREAMGIRLS, the show itself was loud enough, but with the audience reaction it was a huge euphoria of sound.

In a theater it was the national tour of 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' -- those horns at the end of 'Gimme Love' were BLASTING.
But having seen Metallica, Kiss and Iron Maiden over the years, seriously, Broadway doesn't know the meaning of 'loud.'

I have to agree with Johnpopa for the most part. You don't know loud til you've been to a metal show at a smaller venue.
But I remember the National Tour of FOOTLOOSE being so loud and unbalanced that it made it impossible to decifer the lyrics.
Hedwig And The Angry Inch was amazingly loud and still perfect.

Dance of the Vampires was incredibly loud. The show closed before it could work out the sound. Gah DOTV WAS AWESOME!

Rent, Brooklyn and Lennon were all loud. Not in a bad way though. I enjoyed them all... well, maybe not Brooklyn...

Loudest I've ever experienced was Movin Out... but, granted, I was sitting right in front of the speaker...

Night of the Hunter at the Willows Theatre in Concord, Calif.
It just wasn't right for the small venue. That sh*t hurt my ears, yo. (And I don't just mean the material, which wasn't all bad...)

Colleen, I agree. When I saw Rent on tour, it was perfect. Then when I saw it on Broadway, they turned the mics of so loud that the whole show became NOISE.

I usually sit up in the balcony, so I don't have the problem of being too close when it comes to the noise... but I'd definitely say RENT and Movin' Out were loads louder than any others I've seen.

I saw Mamma Mia in Las Vegas but it was definetly loud. It also seemed like they turned up the volume during curtain call when they performed the "extra" songs.

most definitely NOT The Wedding Singer ... had some of the worst sound design I've heard in a while.

Wicked and Blue Man Group are the two loudest ones I've seen.

It could've been where I was sitting, but "TARZAN" was probably the loudest show I've ever seen.

Most definately "We Will Rock You" in Vegas. About as mindless fun as a musical can get (the book made me literally want to vomit...) but the music was great and Ty Taylor was absolutely brilliant!
