Good god, Rent. My ears were ringing after the title number, and I couldn't actually hear what they were singing when it was going on. It was like, a deafening roar, and the occasional "RENT!"

The Great American Trailer Park Musical was so loud. It was only after I got the cast recording that I had any idea what most of the lyrics were.
Gingerbread houses along golden, frothy canals. Like Venice... only different?

Mamma mia was LOUD
Stomp wasnt that bad, I came in with a headache nad it went away in like 20 min
the tour for RENT was horrible loud, exclding the feedback, I swear I never want to see it again, that company ruined my Rent experience for me. I loved it on bway the 3 times that I saw it, I cried, but this one made me want to vomit

I saw the RENT tour in '03 and remember it being super loud. I didn't understand the vocals much. I remember the title song, Light My Candle, Over the Moon, La Vie Boheme, Seasons of Love, I'll Cover You (Reprise), and the random "I should tell you" parts. I didn't hear much of anything else. Such confusion. (Did I mention Constantine?)
Also saw STOMP on tour and it was loud, but tasteful. You can't go see a bunch of people banging trashcans and then complain that it's too loud.
TAP DOGS was also loud when all of the men were on the stage tapping together. Awesome show, though.

Is "Phantom of the Opera" loud at all? Because I can tell from the overture (and I still haven't seen it) that that can be PRETTY EARPIERCING STUFF.

Loudest? Hedwig. No contest. But it was supposed to be and the volume suited it. Only once in a blue moon did anyone complain-and they were usually pretty old.

Contact. I was walking out of the theatre and my ears were buzzing.

Definitely Rent.
The first time I saw it I went with my mom who hadn't heard the cast recording before. She complained about not understanding what they were saying because it was so loud. (but she was also a little lost since she was running a little late and missed the first 15 minutes or so.)

When the preshow annoucement started warning about cell phones, etc. before the performance of Wicked. I guess it's not really a show... It's just bunch of preteen/teenaged girls screaming.

The two shows where I noticed it the most were "Chess" in London. When Elaine Paige was singing at the end, I was wondering if my ears were bleeding.
And "Tommy" on tour, I got there right when the curtain was going up and, I swear, I didn't sit down in my seat, I was pushed down into it by the sound waves.

As many people have said--without a doubt Tommy. It took away from the show it was so loud.
Arghh! Grammar pet peeve #1: your vs you're. "Your" is a possessive pronoun. "You're" is the contraction of "you are."

I suppose it would have to be Rent. I was sitting very close to the stage and the speakers on the side. When the title song began, I thought my ears were going to start bleeding.

The end of SLAVA'S SNOWSHOW *was* loud
But I sat in the front row at TAP DOGS, and when I got out onto the street all the sounds were muffled, like my ears were stuffed with cotton
(but I loved every second of the show)

Mamma Mia! - the first national tour was insanely loud. The other productions have been loud too, but that one sticks out.
Billy Elliot- I think the sound design for this show is incredible. It's very loud, crisp, and clear. You don't miss one word. An the sound effects before and during Angry Dance are awesome
Spring Awakening- The recent Networks tour was very loud
