What is the show

Our theater company gave us clues for the show we are doing next year I need help guessing. The clue are:
- if we were told the genre we could figure out what the show was
- (we did drowsy chaperone this year) it is supposed to more serious than our recent show but not too dark
- won best musical for a tony
- is a really good ensemble show

I doubt it's anything too new so looking back at show that might fit the bill, it MAY be one of the following: Guys and Dolls, Damn Yankees, Kiss Me Kate, 42nd Street, Thoroughly Modern Mille and depending no how "dark" they would consider "too dark" The Mystery of Edwin Drood but you know.... drug trips in opium dens

Yeah. I was thinking it could be Cabaret or Sweeney Todd.

I'm leaning more towards Sweeney Todd because of the "if we were told the genre we could figure out what the show was" and there are very few horror/thriller musicals that won Best Musical. It's a good ensemble show, plus, depending on the director, it could be played as leaning towards dark comedy without being too dark.

Also, it may say something about me if I think Sweeney Todd "isn't too dark" :) Updated On: 5/13/18 at 04:58 AM

A Chorus Line gets my guess. great ensemble show, kind of serious, won Best Musical.

 

Or maybe Nine?
