I doubt anyone hear would be voting CATS or Phantom of the Opera as least favorite if they had been asked this same question in the 80s. Just because these shows are out of fashion with the hip Broadway crowd and it is popular to be down on Webber, doesn’t mean they are anywhere near the bottom. It makes me think that the folks on here don’t see much theatre – because come on people! There have been FAR worse and annoying shows that should be on everyone’s list before cats or phantom. Don’t make me list them. just one sad example
good points, footlights2, but I have never really cared for ALWs musical work. It has nothing to do with being trendy or un-trendy. I have ALW's Phantom on Blu-ray and the sets, costume and lighting are nice, but the show itself is a yawn. I much prefer Lon Chaney's silent Phantom of the Opera to any of the other films I've seen (Herbert Lom, Claude Rains & a couple others included). They are all better than the ALW's filmed musical IMO.
However, I am going to see this on Broadway in September. And I have not yet cast any "least favorite" votes. I'll give it a chance.
My interests and opinions are so far from mainstream that the concept of "trendiness" combined with me is a laugh.
I don't take back what I said. I love JCS and Joseph and Evita, but I can't stand Phantom. Not only was it the most boring night of theatre I've ever experienced, it also massacred a novel that I really love.
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!
Updated because I was worried I'd forget about lickthelightbulb's post which i missed last time

I walked out at intermission on Mimi le Duck and the All Shook Up Chicago preview. I won't count them. A Catered Affair on the other hand would be my least favorite musical. Lestat and Tarzan are also on my Least Favorite Musicals List.
Kismet, Fame, and Meet Me In St. Louis (aka Eat Me In St. Louis)...all three of those popped right into my head as soon as I saw the title of the thread.
